By offering the free painting service to them I was able to get several shells a month to paint to hone my skills. After about 6 months I then went from paint the shells for free to painting shells for the cost of the materials. It didnt matter if I had the colors they wanted or not. I required them to purchase me a fresh bottle of the colors they wanted. Then I covered everything else, except the body. I did this for probably another 6 months.
While painting for the locals I also started to purchase some bodies for the more common vehicles (losi 8, losi 8t, RC8, Mugen MBX5, Kyosho WC, etc....) I would paint these and put them on Ebay. At first my paint work didnt bring much more than the cost of the body but over time I started getting more and more for my work and just kept paint in this manor for the first year.
After the first year I was able to get enough bodies from the locals and paint enough for ebay I started to charge for my paint work. It wasnt that much maybe $40-50 on average and over the next 6 months to a year I found myself painting for a lot of different people around my area. Once I got a body in at a new track it seemed like I picked up four or five new customers within a month or two time.
Just get your work in front of people. If you do a nice quality paint job at a fair price word of mouth will spread and you will pick up a good customer base in no time!!!

look good but work on keeping the lines crisp and clean dont be afraid of just starting over get some dot 3 brake fluid clean up refresh but it will only work with water base paints and if u used a razer on the body that will show to simple paint jobs done great look better than over the top paint job with imperfections but ur trying and it look like a good job so far
