Default Painting RC bodies with cheap spray paints

Most of us know that we should use paint designed for Lexan to paint our bodies and not use cheap spray paint but there are still many newcomers who wonder about this.

I am currently stuck in a diferent country and can't get back home due to the Covid situation so I got an RC body and decided to paint it to keep my sanity. There isn't any RC shops where I am at right now so I decided to get the body off another racer and painted it with cheap off-the-shelves lacquer paint. I also had no access to airbrush equipment, liquid mask and hobby knifes. This was cut with a razor blade instead... I found out I'm not good with those...

Here is the video and a reminder why Lexan specific paint is still the way to go.

Painted my first body with some cheap spray paint. Everything worked good until i noticed a scratch. Thought oh this is easily touched up. Took out the spray can shook it up real good, sprayed 1 light coat over the scratch and instant paint peeling. It looked like i sprayed paint remover on the body! I have never had this happen when painting anything before and i still dont know why it happened. Totally screwed the paint job.

This can happen depending on the paint. There are chemical compounds inside the can mixed inside that help the paint stay liquified and spray out which evaporate outside the can. But they are also solvents.

Duplicolor Fabric and Vinyl spray paint sticks to lexan as well as any paint you'll find. It's also available in any auto parts store. I've used it on many lexan shells and it has NEVER cracked or flaked.
