Why are most rear wings unpainted?

On off-road buggies? I reckon 80% are left clear. In general, why is that? Just the current fashion?

Depends on how much you crash but I go through a wing at least every other month especially if i do more practice. Just to much trouble for me and they get all scratched up anyways. If i am bored at the track i might scotch bright my wing to give it the frosted look. Personally i like the frosted look over the painted look anyways.
That my opinion with a grain of salt as I am also the guy that paints his body one color and all my cars get the same color until I run out.

Short life expectancies. I’ve just started with buggy. After a practice day and 1 race day, 1 wing was gone, 1 damaged but useable

I painted my first ever wing on the buggy, complete waste of time and paint. Only time I paint them is on re-release buggies.

it doesn't draw attention away from your amazing paint job that way.

I'd like to point out that I like to paint my wings, but it is for airbrush practice and trying different techniques. When it doesn't turn out, it goes on for practice and dies quickly.

if by that you mean, since we’ve been using lexan for wings, yes.
I painted a couple of wings a few years ago. Liked the look ok but like others said, it wears much faster than the body and the wing ends up looking ratty before it’s ready to be thrown away. Some have been “hazing” them with scotchbrite so they’re more opaque and don’t show scratches as much through their lives. It takes a while to do, though.

I just remembered, I like to put stickers on mine so it looks somewhat better. You know all those stickers they usually throw in to the packaging when you buy stuff(usually tyres/esc that sort of thing). Use those.
