rc engines suck air through the inlet of the crankshaft so normally the crank rotation is clockwise(when looking at the backplate) but can actually run in the other direction if it is bumped that way(via starterbox,wand starter) or if it's over primed or set very rich on the lsn.

not for a 2 stroke.

it'll run either direction, and still be sucking and blowing in the right direction

rc engines are nothing more than mini air-pumps.
recheck your carb settings,your priming method and starter system.

On these type of 2 stoke motors, it will run in either direction since you don't have valve or ignition timing. I have had it do that to me on several occasions.
