Great question.

The way I understand it is that the property owner has been trying to sell the land for years. The area is developing exponentially. There is a large cell tower on or adjacent to the land which limits the zoning. Along with that, the city/county has threatened eminent domain posession(?).

Since the primary business is a large outdoor paintball facility, the old go-kart track not being used anymore for karting and has been maintained and races run by Andrew at MMR and volunteers.

The problem it two-fold:

1. The club track would take more money than is available to make it compliant for a ROAR National.

2. If the bid is awarded and for some unlikely reason the property is sold, there is no backup location to avoid cancelling the event. This is all very frustrating to many who race the track.

I have run the Lincoln Raceway Park for a Heart of America race and frequent the Hobbytown Parking Lot Races. But, The Shoe has a unique feel due to the 'open field' look to it. It's not a 'canned' race track, more like a countryside raceway.

I'd love to see a ROAR Nat run here...

Allan

Here's the problem now, it's almost April and the Nationals are going to be when, sometime between July and September? Any later than September and unless he race is in one of the warmer areas we're going to have serious traction issues. Plus that we all need to get hotels, possibly plane tickets and potentially have to ship our cars there.

We already know where it isn't going to happen, 301 already has the 8th scale Nat's and The Shoe might not even be there. 106 seems to have their hands full with the karts, Timezone help it last year. What's left? SV? There's 2 tracks I know of in Ohio? How many tracks can support 10 5th scales all out racing? Then again any track that can run 8th scale should have no problems running 5th...

I don't know the possibilities nor the track details but there's a new track in Riverside, CA.
We're planning to run one of the NATC Race there in May.
Maybe start posting on www.5thscale.com to get details??

It's back up, now. Used it the other day.

The Shoe will most likely be around, it's been for sale for years. There's just no guarantee that it'll be available.

If I don't know in the next month or so I don't know if I'm going to be able to go... My wife is taking a summer college course, I have a son from my first marriage here every other week and I have another child at home, takes a lot of planning for me to be able to go away, I'd like to take the family but it's not seeming like this is going to happen...

You guys should consider another problem tracks may have with running 1/5 and that's the damage to the track, actually the boards. With the weight of 1/5 cars I've seen 2X4's snap like twigs from a hard hit. Even a 1/8 car at full song has trouble getting through the wood (although I've seen that happen too, and usually the car loses). Even on the Ray Wood video of the '06 nats at 301 there's a scene where there's an F1 car that went right through the outer fence! (and no it wasn't Scott!)

A track is going to have to want the 1/5 race, or there may be trouble.

I went straight through the boards at 301 so I know it can happen, lol...

Jim, when are you going to join the 5th scale crowd?

This is where we need to post the picture of your car with the Road Rail sticking through the windshield!

Me? 1/5 scale? The more I deal with the 1/8 racers, the more I want a 1/5. It all depends on finances this year.
