I just looked them up, that is a 333 meter track, (ours is 250 meters) 1123 ft vs 820 ft runline.

Looks fun. I'll message them to see if they'd consider rc cars.

[I QUOTE=fredswain;15212600]Our velodrome is called the Alkek Velodrome. It was built in 1986 and was run by the city of Houston for over 30 years. Today it's run by the Greater Houston Cycling Foundation. People had run rc cars on it in the late 80's/early 90's but back then it was just show up, make sure no one was around, and go for it. Today it's gated.[/QUOTE]

Velodrome racing is a kick in the butt! I was lucky enough to run a couple of races many years ago at the Hellyer Velodrome in San Jose, CA. We ran capped foams and once the car was setup correctly, it was throttle down all the way around!

Fred, I did not....I have "liked" them on facebook so I see their current goings on -- but haven't heard back from the message.

I got to run Hellyer twice I believe, I remember being there in either late '91 or early '92 and Dan (from Dan's R/C - RC THUNDERDROME) was there to announce the NEW Location for Thunderdrome '92 at the Dominguez Hills Velodrome (although he showed us photos...he would NOT disclose the information as to WHERE the track was) - now Dom. Hills was an AWESOME velodrome. At Hellyer I always had GLITCH issues.

Default 2018 RC WORLDROME II

WOW - we had a great weekend of R/C Oval racing at the Encino Velodrome

We're not the biggest events in the R/C World, but we know how to party up!

We got things started when my buddy Steve and I met our guests from Japan for dinner Thursday night,
then the next morning we headed to the track to get setup for an afternoon of practice. This was one of
the best attended practice sessions at the Velodrome yet, we shut things down around 7:30 pm and headed
to the Encino "Chili's" Restaurant, where we had about 30 racers join us for a great evening of dinner, bench
racing, a few beers, and a lot of smiles and good cheer.

On Saturday we rolled into the track around 7:00 am and had a few more hours of practice as we took sign ups
and wrenched on cars. The racing finally got under way around 12:20 Saturday afternoon, where 3 rounds of qualifying
and MAINS took place (including "B" Mains with bump ups.

When it was all over, I was happy to see we had over 60 entries for the 2nd Annual RC Worldrome and had racers from 4 states
plus Japan.

Special thanks to EVERYONE involved that made this a great event...

Thank You

Joe Myers
RC Worldrome Race Director

Hey Johnn27,

With a 10L3 and a first time visit I'd strongly suggest our "Oval Spec" class

This class uses the
McAllister Racing Gen6 style bodies (either Nationwide or Cup versions), the Hobbywing XERUN Justock 3650D G2 Sensored Brushless Motor (21.5t), any non-timing "Blinky" ESC up to a 5000 mAH 2c Lipo and any CAPPED type tires.

Bodies must be cut at the cut lines, back end must remain in the body, spoilers only 1.00" is the target and small side dams may be added

This is out most affordable class -- I'm hoping to have a little more specific build info on our RC VELO RACERS group page on Facebook in the next few weeks.

VELO Racing can be a blast however, it's not as easy as it looks. LOL

Thanks

Joe Myers

That's awesome! Without insane speeds I think I'd get bored with such a large track. Although drafting could add a cool a fun challenge to keep me interested.
