Rody VS Racing Engines - Onroad Motors

Four months ago, our group know as Empire Racing, came out of retirement - for me it was a 10 year break. We made the decision to use only the best equipment and to run Rody's motors. We are still in testing to get our "program" solidly in place. Scott Kimbrow is our awesome wheelman, Rick Davis car builder and all around RC genius, Jim Adkins the trusty side kick (cause every team needs one) and me - well, 'cause I talk a lot.
Here's what we know -
Our experience with the VS power plants has been impressive. The .12 in Scott Kimbrow's Capricorn sedan is remarkable. Bottom end and top end - a beast. Easy to tune and we have been running the same glow plug for well over 4 hours. The internals look fantastic and we run our equipment very hard. What a motor!!
We have had two test sessions with the 1/8th Chassis. The car looks fantastic. The motor is showing exactly what we would expect from Rody's equipment - once we have a few clutch issues resolved we will be tearing it up in the US.
If you are in the US and would like to stop by we are always happy to help - we have fun and like to go fast.

Hi Rody,
What's the difference in terms of performance between your 2102R and the new R01-EVO 2?
Thank you.

The VSR02(2102R) is the modified version of the VSR01-EVO2(R01-EVO2).
The VSR02 performs better compared to the VSR01 however some like more the powercurve of the VSR01. Also the fuelconsumption of the VSR01 should be a little more efficient.
Hope this has helped you further.

I've been running my 2102R and VS 2115 pipe for several months now. Engine is a jewel.
Keeps getting better! I think its really broken in now with close to 2 gallons through it. Very predictable tune, running an RP7 plug with 25%.... massive power!! Somewhat like a light switch - the power comes on sudden and hard then it pulls all the way to the top - much harder bottom end hit now versus a gallon ago. And no issues at all. Others at the track have bought it after seeing mine on the track. Competitive with any and everything out there - modded motors no problem. Actually the guy that bought one, tossed his modded OS and got VS. In addition to performance the reliability and predictability is what really makes this engine stand out. HIGHLY recommend

Thank you for the thumbs up and happy to see you have a good experience with the VSR02. Just as a precaution, always keep an eye on the main-bearing and depending how hard you run the engine I suggest you change the conrod after 2 gallons of use, just as a précaution.

There is some pinch when cold and no glowplug, however very little compared to the other brands.
If you feel no pinch but the engine still has raisonnable compression and a good idle when hot then I would not worry too much.

I have not been able to compare personally the 2 different type engines. All I can say is that the quality and power output is reputed being excellent by the drivers who are using the T1202-RR engines.
The counterpart is that unfortunately the .12 engine market is not really expanding so I can only make my interpretation and mods based on the original T1202 engines and not really make my own developments.

Hi Rody,
What's the ideal head clearance for 25% nitro?
Thank you.

Thank you for your reply. I already ordered one of your on road engines and it should be on the way to me soon.
May I know the theory behind why 0.1mm shim is needed if the track has a long straight?
Thanks.

In general when you decompress the engines you get better top-speed but you loose some torque. And the engines are also a little less critical to find the right carburetor setting.

Just finished the KO race with our Rody tuned 12. Kimbrow managed to TQ and win with our Capricorn C03 sedan. The motor was flawless and just plain fast. A ton of torque combined with 'hot-rod" top end was a joy to watch. Kimbrow's motor just yanked. We broke the motor in prior to the event: one bulb of VP break in fuel, one bulb of 25% VP "race" fuel, still fat and then two tanks of 25% tuning to "race" performance. This was an abbreviated race (2 days) due to scheduling issues, so, we were under pressure to get top performance quickly. The motor took a great tune and operated flawlessly through practice, qualifiers and the main. We pulled the head button after each run to confirm tune - nice carmel build up. We even managed to used the same glow plug from break in to the main event. These motors are a marvel! Thanks Rody!
