Hi Rody,

I have one of your VSR03 and R2103 engines.

Is there any difference between the Hipex 2115 normal and black versions? I like the black colour but I don't see too many people using them? What Hipex manifold do you usually pair up the 2115 with?

With the Nova 2015 pipe, what manifold do you pair it with on these engines? 5 fin or 6 fin?

Also, we race on a very high grip track (vht treated) and it is relatively small for 1/8 on road (alot of 180 bends), main straight not very long. What pipe would you suggest would work best on such a track?

Thanks.

Hi,

The black color is a specific treatment which makes the material a little harder and easier to clean(like hard anodisation but different). Not everybody uses these because they are just more expensive. Difference in performance is very little.
With the 2115 we usually use the M32 manifold.

I have never used the Nova pipes on the VS engines, so cannot tell you the results or what to use with these.

On tracks with a lot of 180° turns I suggest you use the 2115/M32 combo but moreover a very good setup clutch and correct gearing.

Sincerely, Rody

Thanks Rody!

Is the black pipe heavier?

I can share some info on the nova pipe if rody don't mind. I have been running os since the 2101 first came out, I have tested the os pipe, hypex pipe and nova all tested on the computer with real lap times. the 2015 with short header is insane!!! for overall power, a little hard on fuel but the power is a big difference in my opinion....
I would have all the other guys at the track with the same motor using the os pipe and they would be like what did you do to the motor is it modified ? why is it faster and so on, I would just say it must be a fast one from the factory!! lol but it was the 2015 pipe...

Rody, I see you carry the R21 now. Have you been able to test itas of yet. I wonder if this is a great alternative for short tracks in 2WD IC Classique?

Yes, we have tested this engine and it is really great value for money. Good power too.
Because it is not black and does not have the DLC treatment on the crankshaft it means it is no good.
Also it is a 5-port engine, so I think you can use it in the US on the pan-cars too.
Anyway for me it is a go.

Looks good, could be another cheap base to make something faster/competive.

Hi Roelof,

The base is completely the same, it is just not black and no DLC.
Parts between the R21 and the R2101/R2102/R2013 are compatible.

That I understand but I may assume that it is lower timed on the ports and crankshaft. I do have some timings listed of the 2101, 2103 and the ONE so I can make it faster to those models or something else as in the past I have done with the 130 euro German Hobbycup Novarossi N21-5T and even with one Picco PSS.

For me timing of the R21 is the same as the R2103, difference, 5-ports but still M.E.S., no DLC and not black.

Nice!

But a weird choice to give it the same timings, a (good as) same performance for half the price, or are people that focused that 7 ports, a DLC crankshaft, a black crankcase and a lowered/lighter head is giving a performance difference so the 2103 is the better choice?

Looking at the N21-5T and the PSS, they were just a tiny bit lower timed.

I wonder if overall it was time to replace the venerable VZ-R
