If you are using 30% NITRO do the following:

- add a .1mm shim from stock
- use a 6F Novarossi plug.

Now the engine should be ready to tune. From here use Josh Cyruls tunning method at www.cefx.net .

You should be set.

Cheers,

John

Default hey

to solve your problem just change the carb to a 3needle style novarossi one, an the glow plug you should run is a #7 turbo plug. i hve the same engine do these changes an it will work like a charm

All Max Engines come with novarossi carbs (its a novarossi based engine!!) the new carbs are 2 needle carbs and are great. Ther is NO NEED to change the carb...NONE WHATSOEVER.

The .1mm shim should be added under the button head. Start with a 6F plug. You may even go colder if the tracks warrant it.

John

impalabob64 - these engines were designed for 16% nitro and if we increase the nitro content we need to increase the head clearance or risk detonation.

Default hey

i dont know where u race but here in florida we run 30 to 40% nitro, i use whitelighting with 8% oil an i never ever shim my engines. i never run hot plugs when i run 30% ,here some of the guys run hot plugs when the run 20%an i been racing nitro for almost 8years.

Default ps

the new max carbs are ok, but with the 3needle if you are a good engine tuner you can work magic with that mid range. .

impalabob64,

I am the Canadian distributor of Max Power engines....my information comes directly from Fantini. It "may" work for you but it is defanitely not recommended.

As I mentioned before these engines are designed and built for the 16% NITRO they run in Europe. Anyone with experience in tuning knows that you must compensate head clearance with an increase in Nitro percentage.

The general rule of thumb (not always applicable) is .05mm per 5% nitro.

Running 30-40% Nitro without measuring the head clearance is a BIG risk. But I would never tell anyone WHAT to do, just recommend and the final decision is always up to the consumer.

John

PS. the carbs are Novarossi carbs. The same as you would find in any other Nova based engine.

Default Thats,cool

I tryed it that way,but its was hard to keep it tuned with just a 2needle carb i hve a couple buddies run the same engine just as recommended,my engine was faster then there,s. we ran same car, v1rrr same gears they ran the pipecombo i ran cvec, new header an pipecombo my car was faster for some reason.the maxx engine is the meanest engine ive ran so far, so thumbs up to the maker of this eng.i hve race car running a 5port maxx engine was destroying the 5port do the straightaway.

I am last years 2004 \2005 Lakeland series champion and run Max Power i run 30% and 9% oil Mugen fuel Max Power pipe and a prospec mtx3
i have detonated many engines and modified the same... In my humble opinion you need to add head shim to any engine as need for the barometric pressure, humidity and outside temp. This will change every weekend as the temp and pressure change thoughout the days..plug heat range is another way to change the time at which the combustion will occure
I like to use the head shims to control temp in the motor and plug ranges to help with keeping the mixture where i like it [lean helps with top end rpm and not power] a hot lean engine will not make power when exiting a turn
Another though too consider is there are many turn and only one straightaway

thanx .. it's just a opinion i resize many engines at the track for people that just don't understand or just don't care .. a little foresight and a few questions asked to the right people will allways get the right answer maybe not the one you want to hear .. i have been modding motor in one sort of racing or another for quite awhile i don't answer many question cause i hate to type
