Mugen X12 glowplug question
Does this motor use a standard or turbo plug? The description on Mugen's website, says this uses a standard plug, but it has a turbo head? Doesn't make sense to me. And when I looked at the plug that was given to me by the previous owner, it looks like a standard plug....
Any recommendations on what plug I should use? |
Every X12 I have/had used standard plugs. I heard that Mugen had started importing them as turbos, but never saw one. You really don't have a problem as they are not interchangeable. If it has a standard head button, a turbo plug won't even thread in. If it has a turbo button, a standard plug will be too small and not grab the threads. If it had a standard plug in it when you got it, then you can only use standard plugs, unless you remove the head and change the button out for a turbo button.

Thanks for the info Scott.

I baught my murnan modified X12 from uriah and it came with a turbo head button. If you were to go but know it will have a turbo glow plug.

Anyone have a link to pictures differentiating a standard and turbo plug?

www.rcnitro.com/rn/articles/glowplugs.asp
scroll down the page a little and there is a picture of the two types of plugs side by side. |
Nitrohouse.com has TURBO Mugen X-12's.
They just got them in stock a few weeks ago, the price also raised. BTW, I have the engine and it is turbo. |
Thanks for the reply guys.
Since my engine uses a standard plug, does it mean the engine isn't turbo? I always thought X12's were turbo. Any performance difference between the engine I have, and the Mugen X12's that utilize a turbo plug? |

Any performance difference between the engine I have, and the Mugen X12's that utilize a turbo plug? I believe the STD. was 1.52HP and the Turbo was 1.54HP. The RPMS were probably a little higher too. Your engine is not turbo. STD. does have an advantage, it's easier to tune, especially when you race at different tracks. |
Thanks Fast.
Oh well.. .2 hp difference. I bet I can make it up with a Murnan mod to it :) I still love the way this engine revs. Really really really high. What fuel do you use? Right now, I'm using 20% trinity. I was thinking of going up to 30% because I heard the engine can handle it. |
I just one this engine in a raffle. The one with a standard plug. I wanted to know if it is made by NovaRossi for Mugen? I don't know alot about this engine, so any info would be appreciated like personal experience. The spec sheet says 41000rpm with 1.52hp with a part# of 'NS12S3". This is the best nitro engine I have owned and just want some more info on it. I was also thinking of running Byrons 30% nitro in it as well, is this a good choice?
|
It is made by Novarossi. It is a standard plug version of the NS12S3. No problem running 30% nitro. It is a very good engine.

Thanks Scott.
Would this engine be considered a low, middle or high end engine in the Nova line? Any tuning tips or quirks with the motor? |

Are you saying its best to put a shim if we were to use 30%?
