Default Scored piston???

I have a new Rossi motor...i noticed that there is a deep scratch on the exhaust side of the piston [visible and you can feel it with your finger nail], it goes from top to bottom...there is no marks on the sleeve or anything that would make the mark..i suspect something entered the exhaust port and someone turn the motor over...

Here's my question...does it make a difference??? or do i need to replace it??? This motor has not been run or broken in...would it be worth running it anyways?????????

Probably will need to replace it. That score will trap oil which will start to gel. When that happens it starts creating other problems and can actually because so hard that it cuts into the sleeve.
