Diffence in running 16 or 25% Nitro
 

Hi, next year in Europe, we are to change to 16% nitro from 25%, the question is, what changes are necessary to an engine used this year (25%) to enable it to run more or less the same using 16%, next question, is anyone aware if new engines being produced now which will run on 16% without any changes to the engine and the last question is are manufactures of engines producing engines to run on just 16%.

Current engines will run fine on 16%, to make it better you have to take out a headshim of 0.1mm.

It is interesting to see how manufacturers will sell their engines. Will they be labeled with the nitro setting or not?

Thanks for the reply, does this change make any difference to speed etc.

There was a guy who did won a Dutch national and noticed afterwards he had run it on 16%, his dad picked by accident a wrong can of fuel for the main final.

I have runned several clubraces on 16% without changing the engine and in the feeling you will not notice something, maybe a little less power in the midrange and on the laptimes you will see a 0.1 / 0.2 sec difference which can be less with the right shimming..
It is nothing to worry about, lets hope the fuel is getting cheaper with the mass production of 16%. But to think this will solve (a part of) the noise issue... No, I do not.

My friend has been running 16% in his engine for 2 years now because it's easier to buy 16% and he's never noticed a difference and he regularly wins our club races against 25% drivers.

Don't think you will really notice much difference in performance, just remove that 0.1mm shim and away you go!

Have just been reading the EFRA proposals for 2014 and looks like they don't want it now, I wish they would make their mind up !.

The 16% was already chosen last year so it is mandatory for 2013

It sounds like the three chamber exhaust problem they had two ? years ago, maybe they should think, "if it ain't broke-don't fix it"
