APEXspeed,I really don't think a TZ is a "BEGINNER" engine,I think it is a great motor.

From what I heard these motors just dont make that much power.

If you want something cheap.

Get an STS D3R or RDL RRE or Team Infinity 312TB.

Those motors will actually keep up with the competition for the same price if not less for the sts I know.

I also heard that the they don't last to long,but you may like it,so run it and see what it does.

I was just at the Hpi winternats in Aussie and i belive Surikarn was using the OS TZR and that thing was flying easily keeping up with JP,s Nova's etc, and after speaking to Hara he said that he was going to OS.

Fantom engines are good engines, but they do seem to be low on power for onroad. If you run offroad they are fine because there is only so much power you can put down anyway.

You also have to get use to how hot they run. In my experience Fantom engines run a good 30 degrees hotter than comparable Nova Rossi and Picco based engines.

They dont make good on-road engines because the 2005 engine is made specifically for off-road. The 2005's dont run hot, normal operating temp is between 190-230 degrees F. I run the new 2005's and to me, it has the perfect powerband for off-road.

You may be right. I can't be sure I have run any 2005 fr12's.
