ATF is a good ARO. The only problem is that they say it can damage the silicone ramps in many cranks these days. I have never seen it, I suspect you would have to soak it in ATF for months to have a problem. Still, just to be safe I switched to a synthetic oil. Mobil One is doing just fine for me.
I had a NIB Nova 3SCT that I had sitting for about 1 year. I added an ample amount of MMO every 2 months to keep the moisture out. Once I was ready to use the engine, I notice the silcone ramp had swollen. I still use MMO for short term use but for long term storage I would use some other type of lubricant. Or do not saturate the engine crank
