SH Engine thread
Hi
Anybody tried the SH engine? Increadably cheap but is it any good? I have the buggy one on order but want to know if anybody has tried the .12 turbo Cheers |
We ran an SH that came with the Neo T21 a few years ago.
Yep, a really good engine. Performance wise it would be a bit less the OS's of the time and somewhat further behind the Nova's of that era. But yeah, pretty cheap. |
What about the new ones? I asume they have changed a bit from the one you used. The quoted HP is around 1.4.
Anybody know what price the PL set is? Cheers |
Yes, I expect they would have changed, also. Maybe for the better . . . :D
I guess I wouldn't believe the 1.4HP rating any more than I would for other manufacturers. Remember the Pixie quoted at 1.8HP. At the usual SH prices I've seen, I wouldn't be bothering about rebuilding it. ;) |
I havent tried the .12 but i have a sh.28 in my 7kg savage and it throws it around like a buggy. For the price and ease of tuning/reliability I am very happy with it. Got mine for 150 US.

I was going to get the .28 and put it in a Hyper 7 and make a truggy. It should make it fly!
Cheers |
Ziggy, if you are looking to make a truggy that wont be all that heavy you might want to think about the sh/ xtm 24.7 pro. That motor pulls more rpm than any big block a have ever ran. It never tops out and after the first gallon is through it will be hard to touch with any other modded motor. The Sh .28 and the xtm 24.7 pro share many parts with the difference being the bore, stroke and porting work. The sh.28 has torque and power to spare the xtm24.7 pro has blinding rpm. Both engines run smooth and consistent at safe temps.
Hope that helps. |
I just got the buggy engine run in, the 2004-XB pro.
IT IS FAST!!!!!!! 1/3rd of the price of a decent engine here in the UK and its quicker than anything I have seen on the track! My mate just got the REX RER P5T. he hast run it in yet but i want to see it up against that. I think it will be very ineresting! Cheers |
Hi
Whats the head clearance for a .21 engine supposed to be? On my .12 its around 0.018" or 0.4mm On the SH its 0.029 or 0.74mm. Does that sound right or not? I noticed the compression was less than i would have expected Cheers |
Well now i know why the engine was cheap. The PL set went after just 9 tanks.
I have asked for a replacement PL set and I hope its better than the one I had but for now the jury is out Cheers |
I hope that's just bad luck, ziggy. Nine tanks sure isn't much.
The SH .12 we had was raced every second week for a year and never missed a beat. Good luck. :) |

It was just ultra reliable. It's not like we were expert tuners or anything. Just feed it fuel and occasionally a new plug. And, I mean it was raced, not babied.
As I said, probably a bit less power than an OS of the time, but hey, those were different days. You didn't need a modified engine just to keep up at club days, then. |
