That's the 3rd time I've heard the MegaMax rumor. Isn't max motors Nova based? And wouldn't that drive the cost back up. Low cost was Serpent reason for going to the Picco based motors..........cost.

..and maybe quality is the reason to go back, who knows ?

You get what you pay for, right?

What's up Stefan? This is Marcos from the SugarBowl. How have you been? They told me you moved back to Germany.

I know quality is the biggest issue, at the same time the reason I'm even running 8th scale now is the fact that the cost for a decent engine has dropped. I would gladly run an OS engine simply because I can get one for under $300. Maybe not as fast as a Nova but I'll have money left to buy parts, tires, etc.

I got my second hand ZX12 this week, I didn't run it yet.
It was bought in July and came with a new conrod and has only had 1 gallon through it.
The first conrod is still in.
I read that the conrod have been improved, but how can you tell which one you have?
I think I'm gonna put a Palmaris conrod in anyway to stay on the safe side.

Does sharpening the HSN improve tuning?

If it aint the palmaris conrod, it will still break in the first gallon.

I'm in the process of obtaining a Palmaris conrod.
I just replaced the old/first conrod with a new one.
The old one looked like new, the bronze bushings were in the right place and no play.

Did anyone try sharpening the HSN?
Or replacing it with another one...

As I understood: when you replace the complete carb, then the tuning problem is solved.
There's something in the carb that causes it to be so hard to tune...is that the HSN??

Hey Big Guy,

how is it going? Good to hear from you.
What I read, onroad is pretty much dead in the Atlanta area, huh

You know, I have always tried to get away with cheaper engines like the Picco and STS, but in the end I went always back to Nova based engines, cause in the long run they are cheaper, simply because they last.

The Piccos were always fast engines, but I never dared to run one in a final because of the conrod issue. Ask Nick Dotson about his final at the 2004 Winter Nats.
He was tearing up the track until his Picco threw the rod.........

Take care,

Stefan

Ridder:

As I mentioned before, up this moment, there is no news about new conrod on megapico engines, I am following this issue very close with serpent USA, because I am one of their dealers.

What is true that the Palmaris Conrod is working perfectly, I am using it and at this moment after an hour of use, it still have the same size exactly as new.

I hear that rummor last summer, but there were some hobby stores that have those engines stocked.

Stefan,

Your statement is true, I totally agree. But.................. When you don't have 400-500 dollars to spend $250.00 sounds real good

Default Little screamer

My Palmaris conrod is on it's way.
They also advised me to replace the rear bearing, ordered that too.

I received my strarter box yesterday (TM X5 Turbo) and ran the engine for a tank, not on the track.

Starting was no problem, it idled nice but I richened it a little (LSN) after I did Paolo's fuel-line-pinch test.

It sounds very rev-happy.
Can't wait till I can try it on the track.

How did Paolo describe the pinch test? I am curious to see if it is different than the way I do it.

Thanks,

Please don't be ridiculous by comparing a handpicked, hand built, hand tuned engine whose parts are hand picked to the tightest tolerances with a box stock engine like you get at the hobby shop.

Also, I run Picco .21's in 1:8 Buggy and they are pretty reliable (aside from the shitty carb), what we are talking about here are the .12's who always had and still have a problem with the conrod. Even a set Dutch glasses with orange tint won't fix that

No, but a call to Palmaris will.
