I just put 8 tanks through my zx12 for a run in and it was starting to go pretty good with still a very rich mixture. Will use next race day and see what happens.

The idle from factory was insanely high. When I fired it up for the first time I was in a rush to shut it off it was screaming so much. About 2 full turns got it back to a reasonable level. Is it normal for factory settings to be that far off? Its my first new engine.

Default Mega ZX 21 race

Hello,
I own a recently purcharsed ZX21 race engine.
It has been broken in and has run a total of 3 liters of fuel (about 1 gallon).
I am a competition driver but I do not want to take any chances on breaking a conrod. So I am lookin for some advice on the safe side of replacing the conrod.

Should I change the conrod now ?

After how many liters do I have to change the conrod in the future, since off course the engine break in has passed and this is the most difficult situation for the conrod ?

Thanks,
Patrick

If I aint mistaking... The .21s never had a problem with their conrods. Only their crankshafts, and if you recently purchased it, it supposed to have the new one.

Rick Vrielijnck (aka RickV) (Serpent factory driver) gives the advise to change the conrod every 2.5 liter......
I changed it in my ZX21 after 3 liter, and I was happy that I did this, because there was a problem starting to rise. The bushing in the conrod on the small-end side was starting to come out, but after showing this to Serpent here in the Netherlands, they just gave me a new one for free........

So if I were you, at least take a good check, or better, just replace it......

I have a fairly new Mega ZX-12 combo. The engine was running pretty good until the big race last sunday. All of a sudden the motor would not accelerate. It sounded like a full size 4 cyl. motor working on 2 Cylinders. I replaced the conrod and checked the internals. Still it would not perform. Checking it at home I found the problem. The Mega exaust pipe has a doble aluminum wall. The inner wall had two quarter inch punch ins like when you drive a large nail trough it. The outside wall was perfect.

Anybody has any idea as of why this would happen?

Thanks
Jose

The holes on the insides are normal. Maybe you have another motor problem or you have something blocking the pipe. Try another pipe as a test.

You hit it right on the head. Found a piece of the rubber gasket c\blocking the exhaust.

Thanks

Talking Engine

Anyone interested in one of these engines with about a half a gallon of nitro through it? $200 plus shipping. Comes with all restrictors. I don't want to have 2 different types of glow plugs in my pitbox.

Why don't you sell your other engine(s), that way the glow plug issue is also solved.......

That would be a viable option except for having 4 other engines plus numerous regular plugs, but thanks for the suggestion.

i had two of mega .21 engines by picco.

what a dissapointment....

absolutely no bottom power, though it is so celebrated.

we all had to have larger clutch-gaps and more spreeng preload to engage it alter, it is even recommended by their "team" drivers. its a bit of contrast to what commercial says!

and reliability was also poor. ok, first we had to change our shafts because of a pin problem. ok, at least it was for free.....

and every single .21 mega that was sold here had problems with carburator. they all jammed during driving, some of them got lucky and had idle status jam, many of us got full throttle jam. it was done because of idle screw scratching on slide and making some sort of chips of material that slide is made from. very disturbing indeed....

well, .12 engines are very different story. outsdanding performance, temperature tenacious engine! respect!!!!
just have to replace conrod every ~5 hours, but thats the only so far found imperfection!

so, quite opposite .12 vs .21 experience...

but i belive that in short time picco will be able to offer us even reliable and powerful .21 engine!

p.s.: dont contradict me about their team drivers beating every track record, they dont drive the angines that i or you can buy at local store!
