Mike Swauger first race running his PICCO EM-X Engines at the Mugen West Coast Challenge in Southern California. Mike flew in from Hawaii on Thursday getting ready to run for the first time since the Nationals in October. Mike had to break in his engine on Friday and was hoping to get on the track for some practice. This was a parking lot track so the track was not ready in the morning like we were hoping but this gave Mike more time to prep for other things for the race. Around 2:30 Mike finally hit the track to finish braking in his engines. Mike was impressed that the engine broke in very easy and quickly. Mike also notice and was impressed that the pinch of the engine got better after break in.

Not having more than 2 or 3 tanks on the car or engine Mike started his qualifying. Mike ended up with the TQ honors and dominated the Main event. Mike had a 3 or 4 lap lead until 1 minute left and his clutch screw fell off and the car just stop moving, but still won by a few laps.

Asking Mike how you felt about the power, his reply was I very happy and I know that there is more to learn and I can get more power out of the PICCO engine plant and I am excited about the Winter Nats is right around the corner. What I notice more than anything, Mike was smiling after he can run for 5 minutes in a qualifier, he has not done that in years.

A friend of mine wants to buy one of the new EM-X engines. As he is currently on Novarossi and therefore wants to know if this engine runs well with Nova 2015 pipe and Nova med conical manifold.

Any thoughts?

Worth a try, most engines seem to work with a 2015.

Anyone know what body shell that is on Billy Bowerman's car?

what pipe set is recommended for the .21? i know the 2012 version had a matching pipe set you could buy with it. any mods needed for 30% nitro?

Stick with the 2669. The 9886 and the 2015 will also work.

30% pop in a .1 shim. The engines have so much bottom end shimming a bit up will only help top end and go a bit easier on the motor.

Why 30% if I may ask.

It's actually the 2069 for 3.5cc ;)

The 2069 gives more RPM, the 2033 more torque.

I don't know if the 2033 will be too much for the new 2013 long stroke.

Nova 2015 seems to work with every engine ...

what % nitro do you recommend? everyone i talked with uses 30% unless they are outside of the usa. they will use the same 30% in both on and off road engines.

25% will give you plenty or power, and a little better runtime than 30%. It can be tough to finish a 5 minute qualifier in on road. Every little bit helps.

...2033 with nova 5 fin, good low/Mid with amazing top end.
