Buggy engine for wet conditions?
Hi there,
I am just preparing for next season and considering the use of a buggy engine for wet conditions in my 1/8th scale on-road. Those engines are dirt cheap, and have a rubber sealed front bearing to keep the crap out. Just looking at STS: http://www.stsrc.com.tw/product-12.aspx Does anyone have experience with theses Taiwan engines? It won´t last long anyway when used in the wet. Open questions: -The SG Pilot shaft is 14mm, my Nova mills use 14.5. Can I use my Mugen on-road clutch on those engines? - Which glow-plugs can be used? STS is not producing any. Their website only says: Turbo. Any thoughts are much appreciated. CU, Stefan |
I have raced the STS .12 engine in a 1/10 Sedan with excellent results.
Raced the STS .28 for a couple of seasons in my 1/8 GT car with good results. The STS .28 got more competitive and easier to tune when I adjusted the head shims and installed a JP3 exhaust pipe. |
If you look arround Ebay uou can find a Nova B21F for just under the 100 dollar but you can also take a look to a simpel HPI/Force/Axial .21 engine, just remove the pullstarter and you will have a cheap engine to wreck in the rain.

Hi Stefan, the shaft has different main bearing than Nova's.Yes,you can use Mugen on-road clutch. But why do you use on road clutch?
Suggest you use OS glow-plug or Nova. |
Thanks a lot for your advise guys, much appreciated!
@stswayne: I want to use my existing mugen on-road clutches because I plan to race the engine in the rain with my 1/8th scale onroad-car. Good news, that you recommend Nova plugs - I use them for my standard engines already. |
The taper is different between OS and Nova - you can use an OS in a Nova engine, but not the other way around.
