Charred Piston and Glow Plug

I'm running an OS VZR Version II with OS RP7 Plug and Byrons 25%. Engine is not running very lean and a fair amount of smoke is emitted when out of corners and straights. But why do I have those parts burnt black ? Is it due to the shimming ?

The burn patterns are from the oil. Castor oil is a big part of those burns. If the engine is running fine, don't worry about the burn patterns.

Like Scott said, castor oil turns it black. If it was badly overheating, the caster would char and leave a grey, ashy residue.

It's running fine and sounds healthy. So I can just ignore the burnt parts ?
