Why aren't Novarossi 353's Boost Ports illegal??
Just wanted to know why the sleeve of the 353 isn't illegal with the 2 boost ports below the exhaust port.

I don't have a 353 sleeve in front of me but if the holes are below the exhaust port, they NEVER open the crankcase to the cylinder. Therefore, they are NOT ports.
|
We had that issue in Holland and our technical rules were the old EFRA rules. The EFRA has now written that the piston on the lowest position only 4 ports are visable.
Biside that as mentioned, they aren't ports, they are just channels to use a small amount of mixture to cool down the piston at that side. |
exactly what I said, sheeesh!!

So, according to what you guys have said... the modification on the sleeve on the left is completely legal?? I have placed the piston BDC and the custom boost port does not open... The problem in my track, is that one of the engine rules says: -Only 3 ports and 1 exhaust ports. -No additional holes in the sleeve. If we abide by the second rule... All the 353 engines would be disqualified instantly, right??? Roelof, you said that old EFRA rules changed... Do you happen to have the old and new rule book? And when did it change?? I revised the ROAR rule book, and it does not mention anything about any extra holes in the sleeve, so I guess its legal to them. I just want to get to know where did my track copied the rules from. Because if I ain't mistaken, the rules that my track uses, are from many years back, and they rarely update them. |
From the EFRA rule 5.1
http://news.efra.ws/fileadmin/docume...andb10App7.pdf The engine may have a total capacity of not more than 2.11cc. They shall be air cooled, with a front rotary valve, 2-stroke induction. The engine may have a maximum of 4 ports in the liner, includeng the exhaust, seen with the piston at the lowest position, No form of forced induction is allowed, no form of variable port timing. Only glow ignition is allowed. One additional gap in the bottom (skirt) of the piston is allowed, no additional holes in the piston is allowed. Additional slits or holes in the liner for cooling purposes are allowed as long as they do not reach the top of the piston at lowest position. If we did stick to the old rules we should have disqualified a lot of racers and nu manufacturer can be set responseable for local ruling. We did take out this rule, in this way if not listed in the Dutch rulebook the EFRA rules must provide the answer (as we have set the tree of rules). |
f*ck the rules!
engines dont win races..chassis setup, tuning and driving skill do:D. jmho:) |
Its not really a custom boost port, just an additional hole in the sleeve to allow the oil in the fuel to reach the bottom/inside of the piston for cooling purposes.
Though it does look like an intake port, who did the mod on that sleeve? Does the 353 come with a hole there originally? |
The sleeve has normally 2 holes:
http://www.novarossi.it/images/publi...t/08679-09.jpg It is not for bringing fuel/oil under the piston, it will only splash against the outside (the part that does close the exhaust and blocking all the heat from the resonance) to cool the piston down. |

Thank you my spit-brethren amigo.

 Didn't remember your username here. So, yeah, maxflo777 is the one that modded that sleeve. Thanks for all your input guys. Some people over here like to yell "illegal" or "cheater" where it doesn't fit. |
