Mugen MT-12

what are the starting carb settings? what's a good fuel?

jscamry 04-13-2004 06:59 PM

on the mt-12 I think the HSN should be at 5 and the lSN should be set to 4 and the mid should be set flush with the carb..

your going to get alot of different answers with diff fuel the % try the 4 low mid flush do tour pinch 5 high so you have enough fuel while you temp it

I ran trinity 20% (non-platinum) fuel, and I had to lean it out a lot from what you guys said. My low was probably around 3 1/8, mid, flush, HSN around 3 1/2. The highest temp I got all day was 205, but, before I leaned out the HSN, I was barely making 5 minutes. I actually ran out of fuel on the back straight on the last lap.

Rob- Sounds like you need to lean out the HSN untill you get to 225-240 temp. Sounds like your running a little rich. Also make sure you can see smoke blowing out the pipe. You should get at least 5 minutes on a full tank.

How big is your carb opening? Having it open alot will seem like your motor is rich but you will run hot. Where in so cal are you? If you can get to Crystal Park in Compton tomorrow, I can help you tune it. Although with the hot weather, almost nothing you do will keep it at 220.:p

MT-12 turbo

What do ou mean by carb opening? Do you mean the low end?

mckrooz 04-28-2004 08:24 AM

No, I mean the idle stop screw. If you pull your filter off, you'll see how big the gap is in your carb. It should be as small as posssible. 1mm or less.

Try 4 Turns Out on High needle,3 Turns Out on Low needle and finally THIS IS THE SECRET try to turns in the Midrange needle until it stop then back it out for 1 Turn out.
I run With Tornado 25% Fuel my engine read just 198F on those setting and it has plenty of power on the straightway with good fuel economy, 1 tank for 7 minutes :D
