Con Rod for a Mega zx21
 

Anyone know where i can find them? I know the motor is/was made by Picco, is there a Picco rod that is the same?

Important to know, is if the engine is the 1st "DSI" version, or the later DSII / DSII+ / DSIII.

The DSI has a rod with a 4.4mm small end, which with the other versions is 4mm, and the current conrods are still this version.

I have 2, both of them are the first generation motors. One of them, supposed to have been a serpent team drivers, has had extensive crank work done.

Ok, clear.

They are the same as the first generation of the Picco P7R.
They are NOT the same as the IDM, because IDM swapped to Picco only after Serpent and Picco solved the issues with the first generation of the engine.
The first Picco based IDM is based on the Picco P7R EVO 2, like the Mega DSII is.
A year later Picco made a running change in the piston without changing there engine name, but Mega called this the DSII+.
The Picco EVO3 / IDM EVO3 / Mega DSIII all 3 share the same internals....
The Picco EVO4 / Mega DSIV are also the same I think, but I've heard rumors concerning IDM... :sneaky:

So, I hope you can find spare for the engine, they are still there somewhere, but not easy to find I think....
Contact a Picco dealer, to have the biggest chance.

Well i just found and purchased 2 of them. the part number is 202022 if you do not have it. I will let you know if i find any more.

So, were these engines prone to rod failure?

Just read your question....

No they are not.
The 4.4mm small end version was, but the current version isn't.

I race them hard, and reached 10 liters (2 gallons) on 1 rod, to test it's durability.
Even after this there was no visible wear compared to a new one!...
Don't forget that a rod gets a lot of stretching during his life, so no visible wear does not mean it is not tired and can snap.....
