Strongest Starter Box
Who can tell me the strongest starter box. I'm tired of having mine just stall on the compression stroke for any new engine.
I'm breaking in an OS .12XZ and went to geared starters out of frustration on other toys. I want to lose the weight but what box to use. Tried OFNA with 700 series motor direct drive and 12V 7A, and a Duratrax with 2-540 and a 12v 7A. Whats stronger???????? |
Get a decent heatgun to heat up the engine before starting

The piston does not fit the sleeve. It's up to you to finish the piston sizing. !BE GENTLE! |
This is all true but also if you want a lighter starter box with more power you can use a lipo it doesn't even feel like you have a battery in the starter box
|
Get yourself a heat gun, and this the HARD starter
http://www.rc-toro.com/product_info....cc9062e1b98077 This is by far the best. Light, study, yet very powerful. I used to have mugen and team losi. Compared to HARD, they are junks... |
+1 on the hair dryer!
For a starter box though, nothing beats the Mugen starter box! Good for 1/10th and 1/8th cars!;) Ive tried the rest, and then got the best!:D |
from my experience:
TEAM MAGIC ALPHA HARD its powerful enough to crank your new motor. still not enough punch? wire it to your car battery  |
you guys using blow air heatgun? or heat gun with a flame and keeping it away from the head but far enough to still heat up the engine without burning it?
i looking for a heat gun to take to the track to breakin my engine.. but all portable heatgun are the flame ones. |
I'm using this bad boy:

I use this heat gun:

loosen your glowplug a bit and use a heatgun on the block with the piston down.
|
heat gun
Harbor freight heat gun very cheap and two heat settings
|

Go to a gas station or a trucker stop, you shoud find a 12 or 24v hairdryer.

ill see if i cant find a 12v hair dryer... or i might use the gas heatgun i have and try not to set the engine or car on fire with it. |

Sounds like the OS TZ Speed Spec II I broke-in last year.... it will be hard to start... must use a heat gun for the first few tanks... and MAKE SURE you change out the conrod after you finish your break-in! I've use a hair-dryer... just don't tell the wife!
Also..... you may need to lean the engine to start it initially from the factory settings.... but if you run it a little rich the oil in the fuel will assist in cranking it over for the first few times before it fires... Keep the heat on it and use a flat-head screwdriver to spin the flywheel if it gets stuck... take your time :) |
hair dryer is not good enough. get a heat gun, will save you from a major pain
