HI Ed
Would you mind to explain what are those things in the background. Are they clamps to hold the sleeve when you grind the inside of the sleeve. Or do you hone it or lap it?
BTW, what is the difference between grinding, honing, lapping. Your help greatly appreciated.

They are used for lapping the piston.

No it is not clamps to hold the sleeve-it is lapping tool for piston.
Thsi pics was taken today at Cristal Parl by Marvin and he put pics of that tool in "piston lapping" tread and sleeves on this tread. Pics of tools was taken together with P/S sets.
There will be no pics of production tool-we need to have some secrets and some of the technologies and tooling will never be release-sorry.

The best way to prepare surface is grindning, but it is very expencive proces ( to compare to honning) and it is required always presents of worker, but surface is much more beter and it is much easier to form right tapering on sleeve. Honning is cheaper and easier for mass production, but it is realy dificult to control geometry. Lapping is most expencive process and it is done only by hand. On top of it to do right lapping requiered long expirience, specialy when couple different tapers next to each other on short lenght. I do lapping of pistons only for my team and don't do sleeves lapping ( I do have whole set of lapping tool for sleeves too).
All my P/S sets and cylinder for PS12 are ground on round grinding machine and polished by hand, piston ingdividualy fit to every single sleeve- it is our technology and tradition. We don't use honning. After honning piston doesn't last enough.

Dear Ed
Where can you get the grinding tool? Do they have to be mounted on CNC?

Engines should be available in a couple of weeks. I think Ed is at the Texas Biggie, thats why he may not have answer your e-mails and PMs.
