"the break in bible"
#196

the above preety much follows the Axe Rossi break in procedure that came with my engine.
i've just been following that.
after 2 1/2L it's starting to drop it's nuts as some people call it. however a consistant tune still isn't there.
the bottom bit i'll add to the above is running more than 1 tank of fuel through the engine on a run. as if you are getting the engine ready for a 20 or 30min final.

guys/gals.
people have said before about when an engine breaks in it suddenly runs extremely rich....
is this on the top end or low end.
in the last couple of tanks running my engine in, i have found my LSN to be extremely rich. i have probably wound it in a good 12hrs and it can still go some more.

No other had replied.
Anwser: No, you shouldn't run the engine with half throttle, without any load on the wheels. There must be something to slow the engine, and you will not have enough air to cool down the engine at that RPM range.
Cheers

If you had run your engine just lean off 4 stroke on the HSN, you should hear it starts to 4 stroke down the straight, when its broken in.
Start leaning the HSN until she runs smooth down the straight. The HSN will also lean the bottom but not visa versa. If the LSN isn't right, now it is time to set that.
Good luck
I had to lean both HSN and LSN 1/4 of a turn on my NOSRAM, after she fattened herself up

she's purring down the straight and still finding power. i richened it out a fraction. 1/8th a turn on the HSN which resulted in the exhaust having an odd pop sound. so i leaned it out 1/8th. purrs now and is really starting to get that scream going.
so now that i have sorted the HSN, i have been focussing on the LSN. i haven't really touched the LSN much until recently, but like others have said, when it gets rich, it sure does get rich.
almost at race tune. i've got a practice session on the 12th and a race on the 13th. i'll race tune it on the 12th after a few of the experienced boys have had a look at it.

so im going to use a heatgun to warm the engine prior to starting it.
what temp should i get the head to before starting?
the first 3-5 cycles, what % of throttle should i use? very very low?
or just watch the temps and keep it under 200?
when stopping it and putting it at bdc, how long aprox does it take to cool?
on the longer cycles, should i be getting the temps over 200?
and should i be heating the engine up with the heatgun prior to each start?
sorry for needing the walk thru. im afraid of ruining my engine

Dont be afraid, i was when i first did mine but i did 2 of my engines with this method but they are still going great guns and its easy. Use a heat gun everytime you are going to start the motor, there is not specific heat i just heated it until i could get the motor to turn over, i think thats the main reason for the heat gun. For the short cycles just use 1/4 to 1/2 throttle and then on the longer ones go to 3/4 but you just want to get it the correct temp. Just read the method a couple of times and dont be afraid

Posting this here. Because the 8ight thread probably wasn't the right place for it
ok.. heat down the head. got it fired up..
im guessing that "pinch" is how tight the piston is when its not at bdc.
i have to use a small flathead to move the flywheel and i hear it suction loose.
anyhow.. tried to run first 3 min on the ground but i couldnt get the temps over 150.
so i put it back on the box and ran it there.. still no go.
so i turned the hsn out 1/2 hour. ran 3min at aprox 160-165
let it cool to 80degrees than fired it back up.
turned the hsn out another 1/2 and idled and light spurts at perhaps just under 1/4 throttle for 3min. got it to about 183
its now cooling.
its way dark outside so i think im done for the night but tomorrow ill try to finish it on the ground.
should i be at 200degrees each 'session' ?
if so, how do i get there? lean it out or run more throttle?
sorry if this should be in teh break in thread

Hi.
Put a sock or similar over the head. Lean the LSN until you have a rather stable idle. If that is not enough to keep the temp around 200 you shall lean the HSN.
Try following this post step by step:

Guys,
This is Jamaican me crazy!!!
As most ppl who have seen me on the other threads know i just ordered an RC8T RS RTR.... Should be here today or tomorrow... I know this is a sport engine so i dont know if these methods apply but even if they did how would someone who has been outta RC for a decade know which to choose??? On the box, Off the box, let it idle, dont let it Idle, Half throttle, quarter throttle, 3 mins, 4 mins, 180*, 210*, etc. etc. etc. this whole thread seems like one big contradiction..... Or maybe im just a NOOBIE maybe they do all fit together im just not seeing it. But after many youtube vids. and reading the first few posts here i was confident, now I'm terrified....
Someone just smack me and say I promise this will work Broseph cuz my truggy comes tomorrow and i dont wanna be the idiot who broke his 1st engine... sorry im stressed....

:bat man:
After re-reading it the first 3/4's of thread seem similar but there are a few discrepencies (know thats spelled wrong) still plz someone say use this specific one plz!
80-90 degree days mid summer very high humidity 85%+ if that helps
