Not a competitive racer but more of a serious basher. I travel to circuits to enjoy my models though. My local track banned nitro a couple of years back due to noise regulations and a few moaners from nearby residents so my 8th got put in the cupboard to collect dust.
Spent the last couple years running electric Pro10 235mm as is the next best thing to 8th nitro (just can't find any love for TC's).
Anyway, decided to get my nitro out to play again this year and am willing to travel that bit further to another track to use it.
Spent last month or two slowly re-building my 960-08, it is looking fantastic and cannot wait to use it.
I am going to make the Cotswold track my local. I know they hold a round of the national there but I don't think they have a regular club meet for 8th.
Where is your local?

Factory Broken-In versions of the new 2011 engines are starting to arrive. We'll have the full line available in Broken-In versions by the end of the month.

Thanks Jdesoto, what has me confused is that on Mr. Rossi's site it says the old Flash gets Max Power of 42900 RPM and the new PTS gets 42800 RPM but in the practical Range Old vs New 43700 vs 44000 RPM respectively.
Does it mean I gain bottom end but loose top end ?

Most of the time these numbers are just made by smashing the head on the numeric keyboard , eventually the performance on the track must convince you if you want it. And face it, 300rpm on 45000rpm is just 0.66% Wow, what a difference! Someone shoud use a dyno, test it with a ceramic bearing and then replace it with a steel one, I can tell you that the dyno would not tell a difference.
Beside that, there are people who do not trust NR ceramic bearings and use steel when replacing them. They do not feel a difference.

We have tested these motors on the track and on the bench. A few things we have observed. The PTS motors are indeed making a little more power than the PT. We see about .1-.2 sec per lap between the PT & PTS. The new engines (PT&PTS) are a little faster than the 2010 engines like the Flash Special or 35 plus Tuned. Some of the advantage comes from the fact that the new engines have a broad power band. They have good bottom end torque but continue to pull longer than the 2010 engines. We were able to run 1 tooth bigger 2nd gear spur so we had better acceleration in the short chutes without losing top speed. We used the same gearing for 1st.

Nova doesn't publish exactly what they do to the Tuned engines. 'Tuned' engines generally have work done to the crankcase and crank. The prop test show 300-500 RPM more than the normal engine.

No, that's not the feeling on the track. To me the feeling is that bottom power is similar but the new engines pull harder and you end up with a better lap time. It feels like coming out of a turn you are limited by the traction of the tire so the extra power is not always useful but once you straighten out then you are able to use all the available power and the differences amongst the various engines is more apparent.

I felt a difference going from the stock steel bearings in an old R1 Kangaroo to TKO ceramics front and rear. Definitely had a bit more get up and go. Of course, that might have just been the fact that they were NEW bearings but hey, that motor loved them.

I have dyno tested ceramics in several engines now..it shows absolutely no gains.... My dyno is extremely sensitive, it even shows gains from slugging the crank...but ceramics showed absolutely nothing !
