Like you said, the HOBBY SHOP sold you the motor, not Nova. Plus you explained to them that you were new to the hobby and probably tried to pull a fast one on you. How do you know that it wasnt the HOBBY SHOP that used it before they sold it too you?
agreed

Show us the box. And the side of the piston.

The hobby shop probably sell u something which is not come as fresh box ( not sealed box ).
The engine probably is still unbroken ..... however, the engine has been installed on the car with pipe on, and the engine's head has been opened for unknown reasons. The hobby shop should explain about unsealed box before selling it to you. YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REJECT IT. The shop should replace it with new one...... or you can tell us the shop name.

However, IF the shop has warned you, and / or selling it to you at amazing price , .... then you get what you paid for.

Brand new novarossi engines comes with sealed wrapping box and security sticker on the box.

LOL THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH NOVAROSSI ITS THE HOBBY SHOP IM COMPLAINING ABOUT. They sold me a motor as new no mention of pre run or use was mentioned. Even if it was pre run there are no spring marks on the N and theres no dirt in the fins so this is a used products. Ahh well I learnt my lesson

Leave the shimming at stock from Factory removing 0.1mm shim will just increase the stress on your con-rod and for very little performance gain.

These engines run absolutely fine on 16% without changing the factory shimming!

16% nitro with 0.1mm removed will create the same stress as 25% nitro answer stock shimming.I think the rod will be fine..

It is all about ignition timing. with 16% you normally will shift it to a later moment and with removing one shim you will correct this to the right moment. As plug you can use the same, the 8 or a 7.

I'm just talking from experience here in the UK we've moved to 16% from 25% and most racers who've removed the 0.1mm shim have blown their engine within a few rounds of racing including myself.

Many racers who've tested these engines extensively have realised that there's very little to gain and far more to lose.

I can imagine some engines are already low on the head clearance wit a 0.5 to 0.55mm, going lower and having some play on the bearing and rod it is very possible the piston will touch the head. But it must be possible because on higher altitudes you also have to remove a shim.

But in the case of not removing shims it is wise to go lower on the plug, use a 7 or a 6

I think a lot depends on the track. If you are running really long tracks, you probably should have added a shim for 25%, in which case you could remove that shim for going to 16%. If you didn't add a shim, then stock will probably be fine for 16%.

Short tracks, stock for 25, -.1 for 16 might be a better combo.

Of course, all this depends on the motor too.

It's also possible that the 25% you were running was really closer to 20, while the 16% actually is 16, thus not much difference.

With 0.15 and 0.25mm shims it is also possible to go down with just 0.05mm

It would not supprise me if new buttons special for 16% are made for teamdrivers.

When you go with 16pct nitro, your car will be operating slower at straight lane and corner exit, .... so be carefull with faster cars coming from behind your car.
