Default D12EX

I need some answers from my fellow RC brothers. I blew the crank out of my D12EX and went to buy a new one. The parts listing at STS site lists a different crank that what's in mine. (at least the picture) Here is a pic of my crank, is this the same as other guys cranks in the D12EX? What is the correct part # for this crank?

STS isn't copying anyone. Just because STS is using a different cooling head you automatically assume something? You must be fooled by a lot of product on the market then.

D12EX Crank: 120200

KemoRC, please don't treat us as though we were born yesterday - that's a load of crap. The engines are pretty well made for the money, but there's NO denying that STS is the latest in a long line of Taiwanese engine manufacturers that try to copy other engines. STS started out with a direct rip-off of a Novarossi engine, and many subsequent models were exact copies of other engines. They may now be at a stage where their copied engines have generated enough R&D money to start and try things of their own, but it's a insult to our intelligence to claim the STS doesn't copy anything. They simply wouldn't be where they are now without the money they got by copying other engines. For the record, I think they're decent engines.

umm, how is the STS a copy? i see nothing, the cooling head for one is nothing like i have seen before.

I have heard the JP4 pipe works really well with the NEW S21t...so who has tried this?

What are the improvements on the new engine exactly? sure i know the bore & stroke has changed but what else?

hi guys up there, i have a few questions:

- I just got myself a new STS D12EX engine and had break in the engine. How can i know if the engine is fully break in?

- I try to lean the high end in order to get more speed... however, i only manage to get the top speed when it hit 140 degree c. (so is it normal, or the hand temp gun got problem?)

- Im using sidewinder 20% fuel right now!

- Although i have lean it, there is still quite amount of smoke come out.

- Which plug should i use? im using nova & os plug now!

Thanks a lot!

1.A temp of 120 deg C should be your maximum temperature. I would recommend staying closer to 112 deg C.
I ran six tanks of fuel through the engine while slowly leaning out the HSN on my STSD3R.
2. The STS engine head button is set up for a Nova Rossi style glow plug taper.
This means RB, Nova Rossi type plugs should be used. However some users report that the OS plugs will work ok,
but once the taper is set for a certain glow plug type you may not have good sealing if you alternate between different types.
3. What type of exhaust pipe are you using?? My Ofna/Mega pipe was too restrictive and the engine did smoke a fair amount.
It had good power though. I switched to an RD logics Turbo II pipe which flowed better, less smoke and unleashed lots of power.
4. How is the engine geared??? I've been running a final drive ratio of 6.3 for first and 4.46 for second.

Hope this helps

hi all,

i'm now using 12ex engine with RD Logic pipe and Nova plug (averenge).its a good engine with a good acceleration even i put it on Kyosho RR (got 2nd B-Main on SJRC last 2 week).for now, no problem with this engine accept one:

-this engine will easy to start with only one push, but it will die if i pull the trigger quickly.if this hapend, this engine will hard to start again.i have to lean the HSN and start the engine (it will start easily).after that, i have to rich back the HSN.i think this engine cannot be start in rich mode.

what is the main problem..? (according to this symptom).

Hi...Thanks for reply! im using 12ex with JPL pipe and Nova plug (hot)... agree with u that its have good acceleration. I have no problem staring my engine... very easily stared! just that i need to lean out the engine in order to get the top speed. i try lean out < 3 turn for high end needle to get the top speed.... but this also cause my engine to run at 140 degree C.

Can i check with u, what is ur high and low end needles setting? Thanks!

Small update:

I'm no longer selling STS engines. My distributor refuses to take in any more orders and refuses to import more engines for us to stock up and sell. The reasoning for why is unknown, but with this being said, the ONLY engine products I will now carry are to be Go Tech engines. If anyone wants a good deal on an engine, check out my site under my profile, you can snag a 3 port D28M for cheap along with the first gen D21T.

Is it available yet? i m particularly interested in the 12 size for touring cars. I used to race using STS D5R a few years ago and very happy with it, and I dont mind trying this new STS.
