does anyone know the diff between the sts 403 and 702 exhaust? i assume based off the descriptions the 403 is a mr or he pipe and the 702 is le or mr pipe

aka mid range/high end, low end/mid range?

About this STS D.21T motor. I really like the power. it has low and top end. I bought one mid season last year. I broke it in, then run low speeds for one race day then run it for 2 more weeks at full out. I was in the warm up laps for the main on the 4th week out and the crank broke. I got the parts to replace it but the race season was over by then. So this year I took it out and run 6 tanks thru it and guess what??? Today the new crank broke in the same place as the first one did. What’s up with that?
Have any of you guys ever heard of this happening to this motor before?

did you replace the bearing as well as the crank ?
usualy the rear bearing is what causes the crank to break.. STS uses cheaper bearings and they dont last to long in race conditions...

I used the bearings they sent me. in both cases the bearings looked and felt fine.

my sts21B is still intact even after 3 major races and few bashing sessions. still running good.
whats your method of run-in it?

i think 21T shud be the same case. in fact shud be better becoz it came afterward. my 28M is still running good too.

if you mean do i bash it. no.. i just use it to race. and i was doing test and tune when it happen. the first time i was on warm up for the main. i always run a little on the rich side so it does not get hot. right around 220deg. the first was i was useing 20% fuel the second time i was on 30% with .700mm shims. it had all new bearings. new crank, new rod.. the track is about 100x70 lots of short shoots. nothing to even get the motor to full RPM's.

i don't mean u bash it to get such result, but if u did, like me too, it still should be intact. im using 30% race and bashing. the shims are 1 bronze and 1 silver only. I am using Novarossi Turbo long plug. Hot.

either the run-in is not fully done yet, like 10 tanks, no less even using WOT style, or you just got one bad engine. sorry to hear that. hope next one better. Im still using stock. and it can even wheelie my HN CRT on the straight.

Got my new D21T Mk11 the other day and here are some photos.
Excuse the poor quality
For your info I wasn't happy with the shavings left all around the 3 rings on the piston, obviously someone forgot to clean it after they were cut!
This engine better be good...
