Capricorn .21 CL-9TE competition engine

5 Attachment(s)
As promised last month, here is the new .21 engine from our company.

Based on Sirio Crankcase, we developed a new engine.
ABC cylinder with 7 ports, 2 By-pass and 2 ECS ports (Exhaust Cooling System).
Timing and port design is our own project as well as the totally review hand tuned crankshaft.

In the future, will be available the AAC version because we prefer to develop
it deeper to bring a outstanding performance on the market.

Actually the CL-9TE ABC version is the fastest motor we tested and the one who is able to make the higher run time with a tank.

George Martinez will be the first overseas driver who will run it and will be ready for the market throught our US importer Murnam Modified Motors.

Attached some shots.

Best Regards
Capricorn RC

Don't worry Tommy I'll let you take it for a spin in practice

Looks like the same carb as the Xenon Alpha. It's a great carb and should be real easy to tune but rods are a bit of an issue with the Xenon's.

Sean will keep you posted I've been running the CL7R & have not had an issue yet with the rods the Capricorn version is based off the CL7R ABC with different sleeve & porting work done

I ran the xeno r for a whole 1/8th scale season never changed the rod and it was fine. And that included the capitol classic. ( A rod killer )

Here are some pics with clutch unassembled & assembled

GMartinez 12-03-2008 06:37 PM

Just a quick fyi the clutch shoes are compatible with the Kyosho 1/8th clutch so you would be able to use the Kyosho grey 3d shoe on the Capricorn clutch as well

Just wanted to share some input got to run it this weekend @ the local state race track was awesome some of the best traction seen.
A few car related issues for me so standings can't justify the power this motor lays down.
Ran perfect all day did not want to over do it so really took my time with it so it can really set in.
Im very impressed with the CL-9TE & comparing it with my CL7R abc version it has a bit more bottom & top was able to lay a couple of 12.9 when the fastest was a 12.0
The CL-9TE & Capricorn clutch was a perfect combo ran it with the 2013
Will be running it this weekend @ the Nitrofest

GMartinez 12-15-2008 11:45 AM

Just wanted to share some results this past weekend
The CL9-TE finally came in was on a Tq pace & it went rich on me.
Qualified 2nd behind a veteran driver who we call mister consistent
My car was relly good once I got a couple of bugs out & got a little over zealous in the Main did not notice my rear left side sway link got disconnected & traction rolled more than enough times for me to pull it off.
Overall the motor is really fast & very pleased with it.
Ran it with Maxy's 16% #7 plug 2013 pipe & capricorn 2008 WC clutch, red shoe. 220 temps all day

Motors are now in stock www.murnanmodified.com

GMartinez 01-12-2009 02:23 PM

Just some more feedback from this past weekend State race @ Fort Myers
Tested out the CL-9 with a Novarossi 2015,5 fin header made the B main
I was able to shave almost 1/2 a second using the 2015 hitting a 12.5 in comparsion to my last outing at the same track

Which plug-conrod

Hello,
I got this engine(AAC version) with a jp 2031 with special conical manifold 2nd hand.
What brand plug should fit without any problem?
Also which engine conrod will have direct fit?
Thanks in advance.

Huh, a CL9 AAC?
I think you have an older Capricorn engine made by Star motor (Sirio)

dsond 05-18-2011 09:45 AM

Hello Roelof,
I feel the need to thank you for all the help I got from your posts on engine port timing and mods.I do now test the singh grooves in a cheap buggy engine:nod:
As for my engine yes it AAC and the sleeve is exactly as the sleeve of the ABC version,if you do not believe me I will open it and post pics as soon as I reach the post limit number.
It is sirio based but I do not know which sirio conrod will have a direct fit and what brand glow plugs will do as I cannot find Sirio or Capricorn plugs.
Thanks in advance.

dsond 05-18-2011 09:53 AM

Hello Roelof,
Thanks for all your helpfull posts about engine porting timing and mods,I curently test the singh grooves.
About the engine it is AAC and the sleeve is exactly the same as the ABC(I can't post pics yet cause these are my first posts here.).
It is a Sirio based engine but I do not know which sirio conrod will have a direct fit.
As i can't find any Capricorn-Sirio Glow plug I need help on which brand plug should I use.
Thanks in advance Dsond.

Roelof 05-18-2011 11:15 AM

Capricorn did switch over to Novarossi a long time ago. Engines currently made by the same manufacturer are Sirio, REDS, Werks and Orion (ABI) but I can not tell if a rod will fit.

http://www.micromotori.com/pdf/sirio.pdf
Here a Sirio partslist, all "faster" engines listed do share the same rod but still I can not tell if it will fit.

wingracer 05-18-2011 11:43 AM

Should be a Sirio rod but can't say 100%.

Sirio/Werks/Orion plugs are awesome, stick with them.

SebO 05-18-2011 12:08 PM

Sirio and Capricorn plugs are the same or not?

Send Capricorn an email and they will be able to tell you which one to use, and maybe are able to order it for you.

Any videos of this bad boy in action?

I'm in the market looking for a motor for my MRX4X and this one caught my eye. Having no luck finding any videos online of this motor. If anyone has some links, pls shoot them my way. Thanks for looking.

Anyone?

Roelof 07-19-2012 01:32 AM

Because this was a top range engine it has competive to all other toplevel engines like the Picco Torque, Novarossi Flash and Keep-on, Sirio CL7 etc.

On a movie you will not see any difference.

Hi Roelof,

I've decided and will purchase the motor in the next week or so. In the event something goes wrong after break-in, etc, do you know of any good online sellers that have replacement parts avail?

Roelof 07-19-2012 11:28 PM

I do not know a good store in your neighburehood, just click on some banners on this site ;)
