And judging from the looks of that crank, in need of modifications.

Can anyone compare the Orion to the Picco P9R Evo3? Pros or Cons?

Picco is less money and likely just as nice as the Orion...the GRP's do not make the same power nor do they last as long as the Picco's.............. the Orion is a Picco, and Picco is better then GRP ! I run GRP and Picco

Now, that I have found the right thread :)

What Picco Version is the CRF 21 2008 Onrad based on? Evo2 or 3?

The Crankcase looks like an Evo2. How about the timing?

Cheers

Team Orion engines may be similar to Picco but actually have a lot of differences, mainly because of the CRF technology.

The Team Orion engine development is done by Adrien Bertin and the engines are manufactured following his directives. Continuous R&D on the engines ensures that they are competitive and feature all the latest developments in the RC car engine field. For obvious reasons we are not going to change things that work perfect they way Picco makes them...

Timing on the crankshaft is different because of the CRF technology and the liner timing is also slightly modified.

I don't know if they're on the .12 size CRF, but I remember seeing plans for vertical slits around the circumference of the bottom of the liner in the orion .21 engine to allow it to expand/flex..

But from the photos above they're not there. I was wondering does anyone know the reason why?

The older version had this design. That version was made by Toki and made by the original ideas.

The new Orion's are made by Picco and lots of the original ideas are gone like the angled hole through the crankshaft and the slits in the sleeve which makes this version more like any other Picco engine.
