Ordered my JL3 from the folks at Kamikaze last Monday and it showed up on Wednesday... thanks for the great service! It started right up and I went through the first 3-4 break-in tanks as easy as could be. After sitting for a day, I'm now having some trouble getting a consistent idle. So, a couple of questions (running with a VR12+ pipe):

1. The Picco plugs weren't available at the time, so I'm using OS P6, which is a hot plug. Will I have trouble hitting a good idle with a hot plug?

2. I noticed that the factory settings for the LSN seem to be a couple of turns out from flush, which would be about 5 turns out from full closed. If I try to use the baseline 3 turns out from closed, it seems way too lean on the bottom. Anybody else have their LSN above flush?

Thanks for the help.

Just keep in mind that as the engine breaks in, it tends to run richer, so just lean out the LSN 2 to 3 hours from originally where it was and it should idle fine (4 1/2 to 4 3/4 out from close) and if you can use only PICCO P6TH glow plugs for more consistent tuning.

I need to start breaking my new Red Dot in. And use the old one as a back up.
My LSN has about 2 1/2 threads showing on the screw. And the HSN is just a hair above the stem. Had to back richen the LSN to get it to run cooler in the heat/ humidity. It still screams and blows smoke. Also comes back with a 1/4" of fuel in the tank. Thats good for 301 Raceway.

I have a lot of empty engine boxes laying around in the shop, and I am sure one of theses is yours, I'm sorry I forgot to send back your engine box with the engine, I will send it back to you on your future order.

I lost one of the wrist pin retainers while changing the rod (you probably know, how easy it is to loose them ). I don't have any spare.. Will retainers from Orion CRF fit to the Red Dot? Also I could get some from offroad 3,5 cc engines, if they would fit..

You can try using a different brand, but make sure the thickness of the retainer clip is identical, so it would seat perfectly on the groove within the piston, that way it will be more secure and will have less chance for the clip popping out.

I always get wrist pin clips with a rod. Not because I lose them but because I do not like to re-use them.
