You shouldn't use mineral based oils, they'll soften the silicone putty.

Either use caster oil or Marvel Mysterie oil for air tools, which has rust inhibitors and works great.

Yes, definitely use after run oil after each day of run, I personally like using the Tornado after run oil, it is expensive but well worth it, don't like using castor oil specially if you are going to put the engine away for a while, because it gums up after a long period of time.


Hobbico after run oil will do just fine. (Marvel mystery oil and the Hobbico after run oil are similar)

Team Kamikaze, in another post i think you wrote that the JL manuel says to run the engine with 30% nitro? is that correct or is it 25%? what are the benifits of running at a higher or lower nitro content? is it solely dependant on air temperature and humidity?

yes, the engines are ready for 30% out of the box. 25-30% it's all about the same, it wont make any difference. in very hot weather the higher the nitro % the harder it is to ignite it.

so honestly guys....i need to make a choice before next friday...for a beginning racer, this is my first pure race car...i have no real engine tuning experience...some people are telling me that the JL .12 Evo is no beginning engine, and that its tempermental in tuning and will frustrate beginners...is this true? people are reccomending the O.S .12 TZ because its more reliable in holding a tune, and easier to tune...what do yall think? what do you really reccomend, remember, this is my FIRST attempt at really tuning a race engine...thank you

Running it with 25% will have more runtime than running it with 30%, and of course 30% will put out more power than the 25%.

I switched back to 20% instead of 30% as I saw no huge difference in power. The JLR isn't a difficult engine - it's probably guys who just don't know how to tune properly.

TK- Think I have to remove a shim? It says on the manual it is set for 20%-25%.

If you are satisfied with the bottom end power then leave it the way it is, but I suggest you remove one 0.2mm shim if running 20%.
