Have any of you guys drilled an extra set of holes in the 2607 manifold for an extra manifold spring? If so, what's the best way to do it. There isn't much meat there and it will take a steady hand and a good bit I suspect. Due to the fact the manifold sticks out so far I feel this is going to be a must do to finish a long main. I ran the engine for the first time and really liked it but after post-race teardown I noticed the manifold was hit sometime during the day and the gasket barely made it. I also noticed a nice melted spot in the side of my body where the manifold was touching. I guess some aluminium tape is also needed.

I have been drilling extra holes in my manifolds lately. One smack on the side and your race could be over.
I put an extra hole in the top and ran an extra spring around the top. That keeps it from being pulled down off the gasket.

I tore down my EVO3 after a few tanks and it had 3x.2mm and 1x.1mm (0.7 total) I then measured the piston to top of liner and head button with no shims and with no shims there would be zero clearance.
I am running 20% so I was thinking of 0.4 mm shims. If the clearance is too tight, I would suppose it will blow plugs a lot?
BTW: Thanks to Kamikaze for the fast shipping (less than a week to Canada) and no duty or tax. In time for next sunday raceday

hi gearhead...

I've also found .7mm in total 2x.2 and 3x.1 in my evo3. Everybody else's seems to have 0.6mm but maybe it was an evo2 rather than evo3.

my engine ran fine (not exeptionally good) with .7mm and 20% nitro. As soon as I dropped to 16% it started to cut out at wide open throttle and run too hot. If i richened, the performance would be so low it would not change to 2nd gear.

no i dropped to .5mm and the temperature and performance is fine but i beleive it could be better. I saw no damage to the glow plug wire until now either.

I'm using a 2017 pipe..It's old, it's 3 chamber and it's designed for .21 engine. I don't know how it fits in my X-ray, but I got it without checking. Now I'm waiting for 2607 pipe ... I'll see how the engine performs with this pipe.. and then next thing will be to try 0.4mm

It seems to me your running the wrong pipe on the engine. The chamber is way,way big and also it is a 3 chamber. The pipe will make the engine run terrible with no questions asked. I would get a pipe that is made for the size engine and reset the head clearance and then run again. We use standard head clearance with the 16-20% and no issues. You leaning it out and loosing the power and such is telling me the pipe is killing the engine. Please remember that the pipe resonates and this is part of the engine making power.

My EVO2 came with 0.6mm shims and i went to 0.4 mm on 20% I ran it for testing but not any racing. No signs of detonation. Made lots of power with the 2607 pipe. I am at or near sea level here.

i'm very confident the pipe has a big affect and that I've got the wrong one.
i won't go less than 0.5mm before I get the 2607 pipe, which so far has been the best match for this engine according to 100s of posts on various forums.

thanks.

i hear the red dots like a rich bottom end, if using the tuning tips here

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfAOq4jR2Y8

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UyyOnYwHPM

should the engine idle longer than the 20 seconds and with the pinch test should the car run for more than 5 seconds? maybe that engine uses 20 and 5 seconds and the red dot uses 25 and 10 seconds, etc...???

No they will not. The taper of the turbo seat is different, they will thread in and damage the combustion chamber seat. They will run but they will leak. The best plugs that are for those engines are the Picco plugs or the IDM. There are othes that share the same taper but I do not have any info about the others performance.

I have 2 IDM piccos, the powerfull Evo3 and the all mighty Evo2, I run both with O.S. plugs(7 medium) I use the 2 for short tracks with IDM2607 and the 3 for long tracks with IDM2617 and they run perfectly, once I put the OEM plug again and there's no leak and runs the same way. exept that the O.S. plugs have e longer live than the OEM plug. both plugs works fine with my engines.

What is a good plug to use for cool, warm and hot days for this motor? Also what is a good pipe for the jl evo 3

As said over a million times on this thread the Picco 2607 pipe is the best pipe for max performance. Team Kamikaze is a great site to get them from.

The only plug that runs the best with the any JL engines is the PICCO P6TC.
