I run with 16% and seem to have it working. I run with a #6 novarossi or OS plug and I have removed the aluminium shim from the head.

The sound you hear with the engine when it sounds as though it struggles to get fuel or get up to speed on the bottom means the bottom is too lean.

My settings are 4.8lsn, 4.7hsn and half a turn out on the middle needle. I know it's different for every environment but I used the settings that were posted here and worked from there.

Only do your tuning at race temps. Go out and turn some laps hard before making changes and even then only change in small increments as the change in temp will change the behaviour of the motor as well. Creep up on a good setting and then use that as a base whenever you get lost again.

If you then find that the bottom end doesn't have enough, you need to work with your gear chart and your clutch settings.

Cheers,

Mike.

fastrcracer - If you can, get your hands on some Tornado Fuel!! That will be a huge help!! Also, you may just need to lean the bottom end and richen the top. Usually, I tune the engines to idle for at least 30 seconds so it is nice and clean on the bottom end so you have good throttle responce with a consistant idle. I use the top to adjust the temp/power.

Just a bit of news for everyone:

We are currently testing and preparing for the Great Lakes Challenge in Toledo. At the event I will have a display engine set-up for people to take a look at. Also, I am speaking with the event organizer to possibly set-up a few seminars about the engine and proper clutch set-ups and tuning. Team Orion is setting us (Official Hobby Shop of the GLC) up with a bunch of engines, clutches and various other goodies to support the engine. Stop by, say hey and check it out!!

Josh, I hope you do have the seminar! I was having the same problem that fastrcracer was having...I already toasted my CRF once ...I replaced the piston, rod and sleeve but now I'm scared to run it but I need to get it ready for the GLC!.......I hope I don't toast it again or I may not be racing

WorldCup2004 - That's the ONLY spring I use now!!! Even in my 1/8 cars!!

Scuba - When you get to the GLC, just stop by and see me. I'll be on hand a little on Tuesday but from Wednesday on, I'll be there all day, every day!!

I have to work out a few things with Ted and club but I'm sure we can set up some good seminars for the week and weekend to help everyone out.

Thanks to Josh and everyone for the help. I think I got it going now. Just a little tweaking on the needles and idle speed and it seems to be running great now.

Josh - I have since switched to Byrons fuel, our lhs doesn't carry Tornado fuel. Where could I pick some up or who can the lhs contact to order. Also, I can't make the GLC this year, baby due that weekend. Are the pipes and clutches available through the lhs for the CRF motor yet ?

Thanks everyone and good luck at the GLC.

The least Orion could do is answer the mail sent to the email adresses that are listed on their site for sales.

At their prices I am not going to beg for the parts. (perhaps that is the angle)
If they want to play the game then they need to keep up with the big dogs.

I can get Novarossi, Mega, JP , anything, - online.

Their dealer this end knows less than I do about the parts.

Do these parts actually exist or are they just trying to maintain hope while they sell motors?

If the parts are not freely available on the mainstream hobby sites then as far as I am concerned they do not exist.

Clarity on this would give some credibility to the motor.

Mike, try Ultimate hobbies in California, as I believe they have all the parts in stock now.

Call Team Orion USA and buy them if you are in th US.

As much as we wish we could, we can't force distributors or hobby shops to carry the spare parts. Only customer requests will convince them that they need to.
