Ceramic bearings...illegal?
 

I've heard and recalled reading on ROAR's site that they are illegal in engines. Is that true? If so, then what about some of the JP engines being sold with ceramic bearings? I've been wondering about adding them to my MT12 just to see if there'd be a performance difference. I'd atleast like to know so I don't get too extensive into this if I plan on running 8th onroad alone. :)

I think the better question would be.

How would anyone know if I am running ceramic bearings in my nitro engine? :sneaky:

LOL so true..so true. Id give the ceramic bearing a try. They can generally take the heat better and are a little more efficient.

I guess it's not cheating unless you get caught, eh? :lol: :D

9.3.4: Other than in the bearings, ceramic parts are not allowed in any engine raced in ROAR sanctioned events.

Therefore ceramic bearings are ok. Only ceramic parts , like crank/piston cant be used.

Well I have seen some wild things. I remember seeing this crazy cv-r piston / sleeve set awhile ago on tower. I was looking for it again and knew it would have been discontinued and it is.

But here it is , pretty wild graphite piston head. I think it was $99 alone...wonder how it would have performed.

But there are some different things out there. I remember seeing or hearing about some ceramic parts too , just dont know where. Dont fully know why its not legal though.

According to the artical in the april issue of rccaraction mag. the crf .12 wasp rev motor it has a slotted, nikasil-coated sleeve. "Nikasil is a nickel/ceramic blend" So according to roar rules, does this motor classify itself as illegal?

Im sure it will be legal. Team Orion isnt dumb enough to release a motor that cant be used at big races.

BTW there is some second CRF motor coming out from another company. I forget who but its like the cobalt vs the shock. Same thing just a different twist. These motors look great though Ill have to admit and im probably going to pick one up for testing.

Just checked.... none of the engine rules prohibits the use of ceramic parts on the engines, just check the rulebook on the link provided some posts ago.

Did you check section 9 : 3 : 4 ?

i don't know if this flies "officially"at roar but at my track the interperatation of the rule is a coating is just a coating not a part of the motor. if i remember correctly, we asked roar for a ruling on this and it was given the ok. you can e-mail the proper roar officials at their website to be positive.
