Default pull Started help

Hi I am new to these forums, and to Nitro trucks i have acquired an HPI Racing Savage 25 the owner had put a piston and sleeve in it ran it awhile then put it up for 8 years. here is my problem the pull string breaks after 5 to 10 pulls.the motor is free it spins over no problem. i even put a new pull start on it and again it broke after just a few pulls. i really like this old vintage truck and want to make it work again. any ideas as to why the pull start breaks. if this is posted in the wrong place please direct me to the correct one.

You have to be very careful with pull starts they are not like the ones on a lawn mower engine. you just want to engage the engine enough to get it to turn over. I would look into using a tiger drive from sullivan with it. The only problem is that it might not fit in your buggy or truck after you install it! Michael

best solution for the pull starts is to get a starter box lol. I found that no matter what the pull start, they still slip, don't recoil, etc. Look into whether you need to get lower profile engine mounts to lower the flywheel down if you decide to go that route.

I am not a fan of pull starts on big blocks. They always seem to break. Small locks seem fine for pull starts though. It might be just the big blocks tend to have a heavier pinch?

For me, big blocks need either a bump box or a rotostart system. I am just a basher though, so I opt for Roto start systems. My trucks won't fit a starter box anyway.
