Replacement bearings ...
Is OE the only way to go ?
I have seen AVID , TKO , and Protek offer ceramic and steel , which are reliable ? Don't see any consistent rating being used in the specs . I did search for it , if you know a thread i didn't find it please send it ... |
I would use ceramic as a main bearing and a steel one in the front. Regarding what brand you should use I can't say. I've used orignal bearings from the engine maker, avid and some others but couldn't tell a difference. I rarly change bearings and if I do I only change the front then I buy a new motor or rebuild it completly with p/s, bearings, conrod which is almost the same price as a new one.

Avid ceramics are good quality and affordable. Have used them on customers engines for years with no issues.

some good info here

Another vote for Avid's.
No issues with their steel or ceramics. Not sure who manufactures them, but they're good. |
Another vote for Avid. I have used them a handful of times with great success.

I'm curious why you switch them up? Would make any difference using ceramic for both front and rear?

I never change the berarings on new engines. If I need to change bearings I will stick with the same type of bearings that were installd in the factory, steel or ceramic. With that said I run engines with DLC crank, steel front and ceramic in the rear. I have tried steel both front and rear with a steel crank and everything inbetween. For me when I service my engines I think it is easier to determine the conditions of the engine. |
