Default lrp 28 roto conversion

Hey guys, I have a kept 28 that was a bump start engine that I'm thing to make a Toyota start out of it. Are there any differences in the block, rod, or any other component? I installed the crank with the pin on the back but I can not get the rod onto it for the life of me. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be very appreciated.

Thanks
