A852 running in problem
Guys,
I mounted my new engine into my buggy but when my Werk Pro clutch touches the flywheel it blocks at the top. I already inserted an extra ring to the combustion chamber to reduce compression. I don't want to ruin my new engine. What is the best soltion to run it in without problems? |
You have to preheat your engine very well, it will reduce the metal to metal pinch... Dont run it in too rich, keep the temps up

this normal even with an extra head shim. you will need to free the piston with a screwdriver on the flywheel. alpha come really tight. will take some time and use alot of heat

heat engine to 200-230 degrees and it should make it easier to crank. a heat gun will do very well, or a hair drier at the least will be ok but it wont get it as hot as fast.

As the others have said. Pre heat the engine, it is the most important thing to do on a new engine. I usually preheat mine till the metal pinch has loosened , sometimes it takes around 1 gallon to loosen.

Guys,
I removed the engine from my buggy and I removed the glowplug. Even then it is impossible to turn the crankshaft around. I'll install tomorrow the engine back in the buggy and preheat it for 15minutes to see if it works like my old GO engine. |

Even with the plug removed the Alphas have a tremendous amount of metal pinch. What you are fighting is not compression but the metal pinch. Preheat the engine to no less than 200* and it should spin over. If it still sticks in the pinch then heat some more. I myself have had to heat some of my Alphas to nearly 300* to get loose enough to start. Keep the engine temps up above 200* also when you do get it started. Wrap the cooling head with foil or a sock to aid in keeping it warm. |
Make sure you use your screw driver as a lever on the fly wheel first and turn it backwards to get the piston away from TDC. Make sure you
have plenty of fuel at the motor before you start turning it over cos you don't want to be turning over a new motor dry. Not good. Even use an eye dropper to put a few drops in through the plug hole won't hurt. More lube better. Thats why i got 5 kids. nah. As every one else said use plenty of heat and away she goes..:tire::tire::tire: Happy running in. |
i had this same problem i actually sent it to somebody else to help me break it in. You need a heat gun. I wouldnt try to it start under 250 degrees.

As said earlier with the Alpha motors HEAT is your friend. I have broke in several Alphas. I have heated my motors as high as 350* which it spun freely. I know alot of people will gasp when seeing that but think about it. These motors get there cooling abilities from the fuel. So on rich break-in settings the temps will drop FAST as soon as the motor gets started. So get the temp up and remember you may need to keep the idle a little high as it will be loading up because of the rich fuel mixture. Follow this or 1 like it and you will be on yer way to breaking in your motor. Usually after 1 gallon you will see the picnh go away.

it it running!!!! :D I had to heat it up to 300-350 degrees before I could start it. Had to buy a new heatgun as wel, the old one didn't reach the right temperature anymore. I have to finetune it but that will be done when it is broken in. Here is the vid:
