Extec/B5
So curiosity go the better of me yesterday. I had a Werks B5 Pro case laying around and my old Trinity/Extec .24 collecting dust. What if I took the internals out of the Extec and put them in the B5 Pro case?
Well I did just that. Everything from the Extec, including the bearings, fit like a glove!
Will do some testing this afternoon and see how it performs. Stay "tuned"

Interesting, but in a way makes sense aswell.
They are both LM products so chances are a lot of dimensions are the same: they all have a 14.2mm crank, same bearing sizes and apparently same outer sleeve dimensions.
The real difference will be in the sleeve and crank timings and bore x stroke. By changing the thickness of the sleeve wall they can change bore without changing the sleeve outer dimensions for example. Stroke can be changed by crankpin position on the crank.

Well I did manage tom play around a bit at my house yesterday with this engine. It runs almost exactly like my B5 Pro. If you think about it, the Extech has a siliconed filled crank and a modded sleeve and back plate.
It appears that the B5 Pro case is identical in size to the Extech .24 so the case volume is also about the same.
Bottom line that it rips! My old Extec has a new purpose in my arsenal of engines.

Nice,
It seems that often times engines from the same manufacturer (be it LM, Nova, Picco, Teccnomeccanica or a Taiwan factory) are very much the same when it comes to materials used and dimensions of generic parts (case, bearings, crank, rod, carb, etc).
The different brands specify looks, timings and bore x stroke corresponding with their engine design which will give them their unique engine. That's why 2 engines from different brands from the same factory can have totally different characterictics.
