Default Wheels running in reverse?

I was at a race this weekend, so a guy in the pits. He was going to start his car and when on the bump box got the car started and the wheels were going backwards. I know I have seen this before but for the life of me I cant remember what caused it. He was too imbarressed to ask for help and I couldnt remember what caused it so I got his number and told him I would find out and let him now. Ideas??
thanks

I have that too. I started my engine and it was spinning backwards :/ I was like WHAT THE HELL? And my friend said, stop the engine and restart it. I did that and everything was normal. I have no clue how it happend. At first I thought that it pluggend in the batterywrong but everything was right. 1 restart and it was OK :/

sounds like you've got your diff's in backwards my friend. Either that or your putting reverse direction fuel in your tank ;-)

I've had it happen to me a few times and I was like, I shut the engine off, restarted and was fine.

That happened to me a few times... one time even when the engine was running at idle and suddenly it just started to spin in the opposite direction and after several seconds it changed the direction back to normal I think this happens when the fuel ignites too soon and the explosion pushes the piston backwards so the engine starts to run in the opposite direction and when you stop the engine and restart it everything comes back to normal

This is only my explanation of what causes this and I am NOT sure if it is true so please don´t be mad on me if I am wrong

i know i am diggin up a old post. I had this happen to me this weekend and freaked me out a little.. HAHA i figured it was from my engine being way to rich or something.. I was retuning after some engine work was done.. anyways i guess it is no big deal.. I shut mine down and restarted it and it was all good.. kinda wired but kinda cool.. I wish i could do it at will.. i could freak some friends slap out.. haha

Please tell me the suggestion of diffs in backwards is a joke...it's impossible!! For one more than likely they won't even fit second the diff rotation depends on the input direction which is only influenced by engine rotation...and yea motor runs backwards too...THE ONLY REASON WHEELS WOULD GO BACKWARDS!!

Older big rig diesels have been known to do it to. Sometimes you get a kick back at just the right time and it will run backwards. Nothing weirder than seeing smoke come out of air filters....
