Engine Idle

I have a RB Killer 9 and not sure if it's normal for it to idle the way it does. The engine starts and runs fine. Cold or warm, as soon as I let off the throttle it takes a full 2 seconds before it the rpms drop to a normal idle. To clarify, the rpm's drop immediately from full throttle to a high idle, and then they drop to a normal idle. During that transition from full throttle to high idle to normal idle it will at times push the car while turning, because it slightly engages the clutch. Any ideas?

Just had a look at the engine tuning bible and this very issue is on the front page...I guess I could have looked at that before posting. Will try what it mentioned there and see what happens.

Its normal for them to idle high for a second or 2 then drop but if its pushing you your gap is too big or low end too lean....if its dropping in 2 seconds i'd lean toward your gap is alittle big. Hopefully someone else will chime in...its tough to dial in the low end on these race motors.

2 stage idle: sounds like a rich low speed needle.
Lean the low speed needle till the 2 stage idle goes away (your left with the high idle), then decrease the idle gap to lower the idle. Typically the idle gap should only be 0.6 to 0.7mm.

I agree. If the motor idles high after a hard run then goes down. Rich on bottom and maybe lean on top. But i would just lean 2hrs on bottom go from there.

+2 on rich low speed. My engine drops pretty much immediately from full throttle back to normal idle when tuned properly.
