I thought about that too. They both use the same head...:weird:
/edit/ I just looked at the manuals for the .26 and the .30, and according to the spec sheets, the only difference is the bore! The .30 has 1mm more bore. The code numbers for the .26, .26C, and .30 cases are all different, but even if they are the same thing, they all have different lettering on the sides, so they would have to have different codes. Check it out: http://www.osengines.com/manuals/fs-26s-40s-manual.pdf http://www.osengines.com/manuals/fs-...-cx-manual.pdf http://www.osengines.com/manuals/fs30s-40s-manual.pdf |
BORED
The question of the day is how they achieve that 1mm bigger bore. Drill a bigger hole through the liner and decrease its wall thickness, or drill a bigger hole in the case and decrease its wall thickness.
|
That is THE question.
To find out without spending any cash, go to a hobby shop that has a .30 sleeve (or case) in stock, measure it with calipers, and see if it is the same as the .26 sleeve. Either that, or if you know someone who has a .30 sleeve or case. |
Past experience with OS say's they bored or replaced the block. Looks like the crank is different too.
Did you know there is a recall on the new fs26c? |
I don't Recall
Recall, huh? I wonder what's wrong. Oh well, I guess that's o.k., since I do't have the new one and they won't sell them here. So what is different on the .30 crank? The stroke is the same as the .26. Different bearing sizes or something like that? It would be nice to make use of the extra displacement if it's not too big of a hassle to kluge something together.

OS FS-26S-C VerII
Just a reminder guys, the OS FS26S-C Ver II *WILL* be available here in the states in January. I spoke to John Stokes personally at the Chicago trade show, and he confirmed that Hobbico will import the new version to the states in limited numbers.
This is good news for all you four stroke lovers that can't find new engines! More development info soon! BK |
HEAD MODS!!
I've been busy this weekend performing some drastic head mods. I got the idea when I looked at it sitting in the truck and thought "It sure would be nice if the intake came out of the left side of the head instead of the back."
Well, It's about 3/4 done. I drilled the new port, made a carb clamp/manifold on the lathe, and now all I need to do is make a plug for the old intake port and bond everything together with good old Loctite 680. The new intake is shorter than the stock intake, and way smoother. I left the port diameter at 5.5mm, because you just can't make it much bigger without destroying the valve seat. This config will also allow me to try out the slide carb from my CV-R:nod: I'll post pictures in this post when it's done. /edit/ Here's the pictures! Recall came out Nov. 11, 04. Block will be stamped NB

Wow, buggyboy, good work! Where were you when I was trying to mount this motor in my Super Nitro? The carb (atually mostly the air cleaner) wound up sticking out the window on a sedan body. This would have been much better. I can't wait the hear how it runs.
Good news on the availablility of the little thumpers, there BK. I thought Tower was the major U.S. importer for O.S.. Will they have any? So which carb are they running on it? What, if any, are the real differences between it and the old one I have now? |

I just took a really close look at pictures of the .30 and .26 cases side by side, and it LOOKS like the bore is different.
HOWEVER, a better and probably cheaper solution would be to just buy a .30 and put .26C valve springs and cam in it, especially if you already own an aging .26C like I do. Then you have a brand new engine, except for the valve springs and cam, and you have the rest of your old .26C for replacement parts. Come tax return time, that's most likely what I'll do.:D |
There about $130.00 for the .30
