Why is anything expensive? Research and development, testing, advertising, etc.

I guess the biggest reason is because we'll buy it.

Robotic assembly lines, computer controlled R&D and the molds/casts to make the parts cost millions! It probably takes years just for 1 new engine to start making a profit.

Motors are not that expensive really. Some like OS are but you pay for quality.

im a machinest by trade , its does my head in how engines like ALPHA are so CHEAP ! so much go'es into them , be greatfull.

Especially if you figure there is mark up on the distributor and retailer and still under $200.
