Werks Clutch
 

Well I bought 2 werks clutches a couple weeks ago and well Let just say I'm not very happy. I run a Savage XL with a Picco p3 .28. I put the werks clutch on just as the instructions said and well after 1 tank its FRIED. I sent a pm to the Werks guy on here and have not heard a responce in over a week. I'm by far not new to rcs and have ran them for over 20 years.

From what I could tell when the clutch ingaged and rubbed on the CB. here is a pic of the one clutch before and after.
I have not opened the other one yet as I feel I have just wasted $140:flaming:.

What to do:flaming::flaming::flaming:??????

Thanks, it was nice talking to you too!:) For others that might be reading this I was in Thailand when the PM was sent (and I'm still working through all of the PM's that I got while I was gone lol) so if you need support from a company the best way is to contact them directly so please call or e-mail them. Relying on a forum for it while convenient is not always the best way to get in touch with manufacturers.

Curious as what ended up being the problem? The pictures aren't very good, but it doesn't looke like much is wrong, other then maybe signifcant wear.. Which would lead me to believe the spring/nut was to tight? not allowing the clutch to engage?

Ron, I wouldnt sweat it. Enough of us know well enough that you do care and do take care of things. One would only have to look as far as your engine threads and clutch threads to know what I said to be fact. He jusy got upset like most any of us would afyer that time frame and vented. Good luck at the worlds.

Don't take me wrong he was a really nice guy and I enjoyed talking on the phone with him. The only reason that I was saying contact the manufacturer directly is because I've had people get upset before about not responding to PM's right away so I'm just assuming that others see several of us (manufacturers/importers) on here and might also think that this forum is a good/easy way to talk to companies. As it really works out though depending on our work loads we might not be on here for a couple of days lol and when you get 10-20 PM's a day you can imagine how quickly they stack up!

Regarding the issue it was simply not shimmed properly as with the Pro Clutch the pressure plate moves forward slightly when the shoes engage. The clutch bell was just not shimmed forward enough which caused the pressure plate to rub on the bell heating it up and basically cooking the spring. We did not specifically address the shimming in our instructions so I can see how some one that is not familiar with how these centrifical centax style clutches work might get it wrong. In any case I'm sending him a new pressure plate and spring so he'll be good to go with basically a fresh set-up in a few days when he gets it in.

Yes when I put it on it did not look like it needed shimming between the clutch and the CB. I will shim it farther away from the clutch and I think I will be just fine.

I went with the Werks clutch in the first place on this truck cuz I wanted the best clutch I could get as I run the truck 99% of the time on the beach wich is very hard on clutches.

does the werks clutch use same shoes as the losi 4 shoe clutch? also does it use same collet for losi buggy and truggy, thinkin on tryin it next spring, just have some questions, thanks
