Picco .21bas Problems

I went out to run today and i burned out 2 glow plugs. It was just fine yesterday, then I put another plug in and it wouldnt start at all.

I tried to tune it but nothing, I havent checked it yet. But I wanted to get some input before I took it apart. Do I have a leak?

any info would be great, Thanks in advance.

Maybe too lean. Try richen it up a little bit.

koopesv 10-07-2010 05:58 PM

I did that and it didnt help.

How old is the motor? I'd have to go too lean or sloppy rod. If your rod gets too much slop it can cause plugs to burnout. If any of them dropped the element it'll be time to pony up for a new motor.

koopesv 10-07-2010 06:11 PM

little under 2 gallons

Check for excessive rod slop. Or too lean. I can't think of anything else...maybe someone else will chime in.

I know this seems like a stupid comment but sometimes it's the little things. Did you check your igniter was lighting the plugs well?

Could be many things or something simple, the rear bearing could be going out. Was the motor noisy like a grinding noise? If you take it out of the car and look at the piston through the exhaust port and see very small scratches it is from the rear bearing.

Does your engine still have good compression and pinch?

- Check all screws and retight them
- Inspect where the carb enters the engine for leak and retight the screw.
- Replace fuel tubing, make sure there is no air leak in the tank/tubes

What's your glow starter? and what kind of battery you use? Too much voltage will kill the plug

Maximo 10-08-2010 05:47 AM

Try a cooler glowplug.....

koopesv 10-08-2010 06:09 AM

im gonna take it apart today and i will also order those plugs. thanks for your info, i let you know what i find

ok problem solved. when I went ahead and opened it the piston sleeve somehow came out of it slotted position. not sure how that happened but its back to normal now.

thanks for your inputs.

Loose head screws?

koopesv 10-08-2010 06:13 PM

No. on this Picco there is a little groove in the sleeve and on the crankcase there is a little notch, that lines them up. Im not sure if all Piccos are like that I had 2 P3 .28 but never had them long enough to tear them down.

Picco engine wearing rod faster then nova engine. This is what i do to my engine.

New engine = Just break in box stock.
After break in,change to new rod
Silicon to the crank intake (Something like JP engine)20-30% of power increase.
Silicon to the carburator and back plate
Let it for 24 hours before running
Run in again for 2 more tanks at rich side, then tune for race.
The engine will last very very long time before rebuilt.(10-15gallons)

Cheers
