tune pipe cleaning?

I know that antifreeze in a crock-pot is one of the best ways to clean a pipe. But what other methods are there that won't piss off the wife?;) The pipe in question is well used and caked and baked:sneaky:. Thanks

i saw no need to make my wife angry..so i spent 10.00 @ wallyworld for a new crockpot..gave it to her and took the old one out to the garage.

there is a much simpler way

The antifreeze/crockpot method is way too much work... storing the crockpot, smelling the stinky heated antifreeze, dealing with antifreeze itself...

Go to an autoparts store and buy a gallon of carb/parts cleaner. I use "GUNK" brand, I'm sure there are others. The gallon should contain a basket to set parts in for dunking. The solution is waterbased, therefore it rinses off nicely with soap and water.

Disassemble the pipe and header assy and put in basket and put in the can overnight. The next day, I remove the pipe and hit it good with some simple green, rinse it good in the sink and the pipe looks brand new. Everything wipes right off. You can do this with the oldest, nastiest pipe... works perfect. And you won't believe how much comes out from the inside of the pipe. When you are done, put the top back on the can and put it on a shelf.

Do you put the crock pot on high or low?

devilsquid 10-05-2010 06:22 PM

thanks for the laugh Palmer, I can so completely understand. My wife would be making funeral arrangements for me right now if I did that.

and by that, I mean the ones where noone would ever find my body.LOL

By the way guys, how often is it good to clean the pipe???
I mean not to make it look good, but to "open it up" performance wise?

I do mine on high for about 8 hours. I just keep checking it, the gunk falls right off.

Yes, when you take it out, run it under some water, and wipe off the black film with a rag. the quicker you do it the easier it is to come off.

After you do the crockpot thing, get some Mothers Aluminum Polish Compound, and hit it with that and a rag, really does look brand new.

I used brake cleaner today on my chrome pipe...Worked wonders! Got everything off except for where the plastic/ paint melted on. Gotta get some goof off for that.

Is this for asthetics only?

Whats the purpose of this? Keep your pipe looking good or making it perform better by removing the old crap inside?
