WD-40 vs Crank Red Putty?
 

Will WD-40 damage the crank red putty if used as after run oil, most of the engine manufatures say dont use certain fluids, but is WD-40 one of them?

Do not use WD-40, or any petroleum based oils. They will swell, and eventually detach the silicon. Use a good after run oil specifically made for our little engines that says it does not attack the silicon ;) Some of the after run oils in the hobby shops are still petroleum based.

Do not use the Hobbico after run oil from Tower hobbies, that is a petroleum base after run oil and will interact with the silicone.

i have been using marvel mystery oil and tranny fluid for over 20 years and never had any issues.

wd40 is not good for silicone filled cranks but its ok on ceramic filled cranks(if they still use ceramic).

Use a synthetic oil. Many of the red ARO's are transmission fluid which is petroleum based. Some of them are a synthetic oil such as Klotz Techniplate (also red) which is fine.

I just use Mobil 1 synthetic. Cheep, available at any auto store and works great.

How long does it take for Hobbico to damage the putty(silicone)? I run two red dots almost every weekend for two years now and have not had any problems with the Hobbico after run oil.

i use premium lube from serpent (now xceed) and is good. BTW, guys, i have a new bottle of Tornado after run oil (red), is it good?

I have been using Tornado ARO for over year on engines with silicon putty and not had any problems so far.

I have a bottle of Synthetic Mobil 1 automatic transmission fluid that I pour into a smaller bottle with a dropper top that I can take with me. Works great, also I have used 3-in-1 oil previously, but I prefer the ATF fluid because it bonds to the parts better to protect. There's various hobby specific after run oils sold that claim to burn off in 2-3 seconds after the engine starts up so it doesn't leave residue etc. Personally I think it's just a selling point. I've never had 3-in-1 oil negatively affect an engine but who knows? Guess it's better to be safe than take my one example for it.

I've been using Liquid Wrench Super Oil for my JP R03 which has mineral oil in it is that okay? :confused:

What oil brand do you suggest Grinder.

Can someone give names or brands of oil to buy so it doesn't ruin the silicone.
